The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country. Since 1973, graduates of universities and later, polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. To many it’s one year of exploring, making new friends, eating new dishes, finding love, making plans and volunteering. One the other hand, some folks find the whole service thing a waste of time and energy.

In any of the above category you find yourself, the very painful news is that NYSC is mandatory for everyone (I’m sorry). And the earlier you saw it as a great idea, the better. However, we shall help you discover some things you should know about NYSC in Nigeria before you finally go in. These tips will help you while registering and even in your stay in the camp. 1. Soldiers are not allowed to touch you
Soldiers are in charge of training on camp ground. However, no soldier is allowed to shoot or beat any corp member in the orientation camp. Nonetheless, they can give you some breath-taking punishment that will make you forget your firt name. Exercises like juggling, squatting, rolling, are their favourites.

2. NYSC “Allowee” is mandatory
NYSC allowance is compulsory to receive. No big boy or big girl in this one. If at all you didn’t receive it, you may not pass out of the programme.
