How to train a German shepherd

Few dogs display the German shepherd’s gracefulness and allure. Not only are they the most loyal dog breeds, but they are also working dogs that usually enjoy learning. Because German Shepherds have all these traits, they are brilliant, athletic, and eager to please. They are very versatile and trainable animals.

Training a German shepherd puppy

Start training a German shepherd puppy when he is about eight weeks old. Although every German shepherd puppy can be taught, they are compelling and robust animals. Starting with a puppy allows you to mold and modify his personality and develop your relationship early on. If you have an older dog, adult dogs can also be trained effectively. German Shepherds can be very protective relative to their family members. It would help if you socialized your puppy when you are very young to get used to interacting with various people and animals.

Begin gently handling your puppy

Begin gently handling your puppy's paws, ears, tail, etc., preparing for his future visits to a groomer and vets. This will be a large dog, and you will want to prepare the dog for nail clipping, ear cleaning, temperature measurement, and other procedures when it is young and small. These procedures will be difficult to perform if your adult German shepherd objects to them.

Teach your basic commands

Start teaching your puppy basic commands. Training your German shepherd need is, sit, stand, and walk next to you in addition to toilet training. Your puppy will not immediately understand your commands. Be patient with your dog if he doesn't do what you ask right away.

Use food commands

Use food rewards and praise to confirm your commands. German Shepherds love to learn and are very motivated to obey your commands when rewarded with treats.

Avoid food envy

Avoid food envy. Pat, you're puppy while he eats as long as he doesn't freeze and stops eating when you pet him. However, when you notice the puppy stiffens, stops eating, or growls, this is an aggressive reaction that you should address immediately. Let your puppy know that people are not a threat to the food bowl by adding food to the bowl while it eats. Start with a few kibbles (or whatever type of food you feed him) in the bowl and add food so that the puppy associates good things with people at his food bowl.

Hand-feed your dog

Tackle feeding time by removing the food bowl and hand-feeding the dog. The puppy must earn every bit of food from you with a "sit" or another command. Do not allow puppies to guard the bowl before feeding. Once the puppy is more confident and compliant around food, you can bring out a bowl or plate. Continue the hand-feeding routine in the bowl or plate's presence, but still feed not directly from the board. Don't make a big point on the board. If a piece of food falls into it, let the puppy take it and praise it. Then feed again nearby. The bowl will not always contain food. You can gradually increase the amount of food that falls into the bowl while standing or sitting there with the puppy. This makes the dog realize that your presence at the bowl of food is a good thing and that the bowl is not something to be guarded. You can drop highly rated treats like fried chicken breast in the bowl if your puppy needs more reassurance seems to have you bringing treats to the food bowl. Remember the safety rules, if you feel there is danger, STOP. Immediately involve a professional trainer to avoid injuring you or any other family member, especially a child. Feeding aversion can be a severe symptom of anxiety aggression. If you see it in a puppy, it should be addressed IMMEDIATELY not to escalate.

Use feeding time as training time. For example, ask the puppy to look at you to get more food, then sit and wait for more food, etc. The human controls the source of food and rewards the puppy for good behavior.

Ward off the performance of your puppy

Ward off the performance rewards in your puppy. After your puppy learns a command, start rewarding periodically so that you don't get a dog that wants to work for food. You still praise your dog but don't give a treat every time. If you're going to improve a command to get a faster response, add rewards to shape the behavior until it gets it right. Then start using tips to reward truly outstanding performance.

Don't arouse fear in your puppy.

Don't yell at your pet. When you notice your temper is off-grid, it is time to stop exercising. Your dog can sense your body language and voice stress. Try another day again when it is getting tiring. If you continue to have problems, contact a professional trainer.

Take your German shepherd puppy to a primary or puppy course in obedience.

Usually, when puppies begin to learn commands, one adult family member will be responsible for training. Other family members can join the formal training after the puppy gets the basics and is ready for more people. The dog needs to understand that not just one person in the household should be obeyed. Your puppy should be 8-10 weeks old and have had his vaccinations before his first class. There are puppy schools specially formulated for puppies that have not yet had all their vaccinations. The school will have specific requirements for participation, and you will likely be required to provide proof of immunization.

In conclusion

German Shepherd Dogs are very observant. Your dog will pick up on your cues and reactions to spherical new people and new situations. During this critical period, hanging around different sorts of human beings in non-threatening conditions will help your dog be more confident and friendly amongst people or strangers rather than being anxious or aggressive for no reason. Try out these stated methods. You will instruct not only an obedient and disciplined German shepherd dog but also a smart and hardworking dog.
Remember, it is wiser to reward the animal when it does something right. So don't try to emphasize the things he is doing wrong. Positive reinforcement always works. This is also true when it comes to German Shepherds.
So, it doesn't have to be challenging to train a German shepherd. If you decide to adopt one, you will have a fantastic pet that will delight you every day and be an outstanding companion learning

GSD are big dogs and keeping them outdoors is fine as long as they have shaded areas, sufficient water, and fly repellent etc. I would bring the dog indoors with extreme weather conditions such as hot days, cold nights, and wet weather.

They require a fair amount of exercise so keeping them indoors all day isn’t an option. But not giving them attention when they are outdoors isn’t ideal either.

Getting best dog gps tracker is always a good idea.

The added bonus of a GSD is they make for a good deterrent to theifs/break ins. For that you ideally want them outdoors.

GSD do take effort to look after but the bond you develop with the dog is very unique and well worth the time invested imo.

Good luck.
