NNPP asks Abiodun to constitute LG election committee in 21 days


The New Nigeria People’s Party ( NNPP), Ogun State chapter has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to constitute the State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for the local government elections or face legal battle.

Chairman of the party, Comrade Olamiposi Oginni disclosed this while reading the ultimatum letter written to the governor at press conference held in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Oginni, who described as illegal the running of the local government by Caretaker Committees, said it was no longer acceptable to the party.

He stated that the governor derived joy in running an undemocratic government at the grassroot levels in the state, saying the party would no longer tolerate such.

“The above named political party hereby demand for the Constitution and Inauguration of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission to fast track the electioneering of democratically elected leadership at the 20 local government councils in Ogun State.

“It’s saddening that your excellency as a democratically elected governor smartly derived joy in running an undemocratic government at the grassroot levels of Ogun State.

“We hereby declared unequivocally that the illegal running of the local government by caretaker committee is no longer acceptable.

“On this note, we are demanding the constitution and inauguration of OGSIEC as a matter of urgency and automatic alacrity in less than 21 days from today.”

“The party will use everything within the armbit of law to ensure that the third tiers of the government is free from the whims and caprices of the successive governors of the state,” the letter read.

In another development, on the issue of online registration for the South West Security Network (Amotekun), comrade Oginni urged the government to domesticate the registration in order to give rooms for the people at the grassroots to register.

While he appealed to the state government to be proactive with the issue security lapses across the state.
