UNESCO Laureate Congratulates Ngozi Okonjo-iweala Over Appointment by Daudupress: 9:42am On Feb 17, 2021
The World Grand President, International Chartered World Learned Society (ICWLS), UNESCO Laureate, Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu has congratulated Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over her emergence as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The World Grand President and UNESCO Laureate, Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu today 17 Feb. 2021 congratulated Igozi on behalf of the International Chartered World Learned Society (ICWLS), following the announcement of the World Trade organization revealing Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's appointment via its official tweeter handle @WTO.org.

According to the tweet, “members made history when the General Council agreed by consensus to select Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria as the organization’s seventh Director-General.”

It is worthy of note that upon resumption on 1 March, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will become the first woman and the first African to be chosen as Director-General. Her term, renewable, will expire on 31 August 2025.

Bashiru, in his words, “This is a very significant moment for the WTO. On behalf of the International Chartered World Learned Society (ICWLS), I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the WTO’s next Director-General.”

Stating further, (World Acclaimed Distinguished Professor Emeritus ) charged Okonjo-Iweala to have her priority placed on team work to swiftly address the economic and health consequences brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
