Ago-Iwoye residents seeks immediate registration of okada riders over insecurity

Ago Iwoye Progressives Organisation has called on the leadership of Ijebu North local government to as a matter of urgency commence immediate formal registration of all commercial motorcyclists 'Okada Riders' operating in the local government.

Mr Taiwo Nodiru, the Coordinator of the organisation, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday.

He appealed to the local government to take the issue of security more serious, hence, the need to check the okada riders activities.

Nodiru advised that riders should be assigned special number / reflective jackets with security code.

"Any rider without this approved jacket should not be allowed to operate within the local government.

"Members of the public should also be informed never to patronize any unregistered Okada rider not minding the tribe or language.

"If this advice is followed, it then become easier to identify and arrest the illegal okada riders that are security threat to our people.

"Our people should always ensure that face of the okada rider that will carry them is seen clearly for identification purpose.

"They should also communicate with the Okada rider to have a clear idea of his tribe before embarking on the journey.

"Most importantly, our people should avoid night / early morning journey because it's easier for a criminal minded Okada rider to operate without any challenge," he said.

He urged parents to desist from using strange or unidentifiable Okada riders to convey their children to and from schools.

"The various Okada riders unions also have roles to play by assisting security agencies in fishing out bad elements among them," he said.
