Breaking Free From Addictions As A Christian by peniel465(m): 9:58am On Feb 21, 2021
Many Christians struggle with a whole lot of addictions. Phonography, extra/pre marital sex, stealing, drugs are some but a few of the addictions plaguing youthful Christians.
But is there a way to break free from sinful addictions?
Let's take a dive into the scriptures below
Romans 6:7-14
[7]For he that is dead is freed from sin.
[8]Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
[9]Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
[10]For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
[11]Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[12]Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
[13]Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
[14]For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

I would like to re emphasise v 11, it said to reckon, acknowledge, oneself to be dead to sin. This is where the power is, it is from this stand point that v14 comes to bear..
You have to acknowledge that you are dead to sin, practically let's say porn for instance, how do you practically acknowledge or reckon yourself as dead to porn?
You acknowledge or reckon things in the kingdom by your words/confessions. So you say to yourself, "I am dead to porn, therefore porn has no hold over me". You may go ahead to watch porn after saying that, but you need maintain your dead state in respect to sin.. Men can't respond to things they are dead to. So don't lament, and acknowledge sin even when you do sin, continue to acknowledge that you are dead to porn, and alive to God.. Do this everyday consistently for 4 weeks, and you'd literally feel the grip of that addiction loosen and become slippery over you.

Also remember, the scripture says, as He is so we are we in this world, meaning when we speak the character and nature of our words are same with that of God..
Let me explain practically how God's word work,.
God says "my words do not come back to me void but rather it would prosper for that which it was sent.. Take note of this:" God's word comes back to Him."..
Let me explain further, its like an echo, when you speak in an empty room, and say" John", you would hear an echo which is still "John" right? Whatever you hear, is what you said. Your voice by an operation of reflection, comes back to you "Echo" is a reflected, or reverberated sound, its like throwing a ball to the wall and it comes right back to you.. You can speak words to your body, to your emotions, to your thoughts, to your desires and your body, desires etc would begin to echo the same things you said..
Remember "by your words you are justified or condemned" not by your actions.. Kai! Did you see that?
You have been trying to "do" and "stop doing" when what you should be doing is "talking"..
Remember justification and condemnation are verdicts from a judge, but by your words you are justified, by your words, meaning, God made you a judge over your own life..
Declare after, me " I am dead to sin, I am alive to God, I am the righteousness of God in christ Jesus, I'm a Holy nation, a peculiar people, I'm sanctified, I am blood washed!.. Did you say those words,? Did you notice the peace and how light you felt? Thats the Holy Ghost. Your words just released spiritual energy..
... To be continued..

Same way they said "heaven helps those who help themselves".. But God never said so..
I'm not downplaying actions, but we are showing the path of transformation..it is words (of God) that initiates the change of actions. When you want to change the fruits(works) being produced you change the seeds(words) sown..
Beisdes God's ways are different(higher) from man's ways, that is why His ways seem foolish to men, though it be wisdom and power.

I am afraid you can declare(recon/acknowledge to yourself) all you want but nothing will ever change, nothing will change. Not until you listen and begin to do what Jesus Christ taught you to do.

According to Jesus Christ, the only way to be free from sin requires acceptance and obedience of His teachings/commandments

John 8 vs 31-47
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. So Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “If you continue to accept and obey my teaching, you are really my followers.
32. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
33. They answered, “We are Abraham’s descendants. And we have never been slaves. So why do you say that we will be free?”
34. Jesus said, “The truth is, everyone who sins is a slave—a slave to sin.
35. A slave does not stay with a family forever. But a son belongs to the family forever.
36. So if the Son makes you free, you are really free.
37. I know you are Abraham’s descendants. But you want to kill me, because you don’t want to accept my teaching.
38. I am telling you what my Father has shown me. But you do what your father has told you.”
39. They said, “Our father is Abraham.”
Jesus said, “If you were really Abraham’s descendants, you would do what Abraham did.
40. I am someone who has told you the truth I heard from God. But you are trying to kill me. Abraham did nothing like that.
41. So you are doing what your own father did.”
But they said, “We are not like children who never knew who their father was. God is our Father. He is the only Father we have.”
42. Jesus said to them, “If God were really your Father, you would love me. I came from God, and now I am here. I did not come by my own authority. God sent me.
43. You don’t understand the things I say, because you cannot accept my teaching.
44. Your father is the devil. You belong to him. You want to do what he wants. He was a murderer from the beginning. He was always against the truth. There is no truth in him. He is like the lies he tells. Yes, the devil is a liar. He is the father of lies.
45. “I am telling you the truth, and that’s why you don’t believe me.
46. Can any of you prove that I am guilty of sin? If I tell the truth, why don’t you believe me?
47. Whoever belongs to God accepts what he says. But you don’t accept what God says, because you don’t belong to God.”
If you do not accept and obey the teachings of Jesus Christ, as Jesus Himself commanded of you, how in the world do you intend to spin "sinlessness" out of your disobedience? undecided
How do you intend to overcome a sinful addiction of any kind, when you refuse to listen and heed the words of the one who defines sin as it is?undecided

There are no Kingdom words or Spells given by Jesus Christ by which you can magically whisk away sin. Your confessions amount to nothing since Jesus Christ, the one you pretend to follow, never told that you can overcome by confessing anything. Stop believing the word of God is a bunch of magical incantations to be confessed or declared. undecided

Listen and do what Jesus Christ commands of you.

Firstly thank you for your response.. Now, you obviously disagree with the write up.. Very much allowed.. You said alot of things.. How exactly do you obey God? How exactly do u heed his words?

The kingdom walk of a believer hinges on the scripture below
Romans 10:10
[10]For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The technology dat saves works with the "heart" and "Mouth"..
See this other scripture
Romans 10:6-8
[6]But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from abovesmiley
[7]Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
[8]But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Remember the just shall live by faith, but this faith, works with the heart_believe and mouth confession technology..
The words we speak are the words of God and guess wat they are more powerful than magical incantations or spells, if demonic incantations are powerful as u suggest, how much more the words of God?

From ur write up, u are obviously not looking to be convinced, u seem pretty convinced already... Whether u believe in d power of confessing God's word or not, just keep loving the Lord and like you said "heeding" His words..

If u still have conflicting opinions -( I believe u do), just relax and keep doing wat you believe to be true. I for one, don't like debating or arguing scriptures, I state the scripture, explain, and leave the Holy Ghost to do d conviction, and if someone else thinks otherwise, I let them be..
God bless you sir.. Enjoy your walk with God..

Exactly how do you obey God? Simple! And I can show you how by using an example. So, below is an example of one of the 46 commandments contained in the New Covenant that is Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5 vs 43-48 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38. “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’[i]
39. But I tell you, don’t fight back against someone who wants to do harm to you. If they hit you on the right cheek, let them hit the other cheek too.
40. If anyone wants to sue you in court and take your shirt, let them have your coat too.
41. If a soldier forces you to walk with him one mile,[j] go with him two.
42. Give to anyone who asks you for something. Don’t refuse to give to anyone who wants to borrow from you.
[b]43.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[k] and hate your enemy.’
44. But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who treat you badly.
45. If you do this, you will be children who are truly like your Father in heaven. He lets the sun rise for all people, whether they are good or bad. He sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong.
46. If you love only those who love you, why should you get a reward for that? Even the tax collectors do that.
47. And if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than anyone else. Even the people who don’t know God are nice to their friends.
48. What I am saying is that you must be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
According to the above passage, Jesus Christ commands that I love my enemies, pray for them(not against them), going the extra mile when my enemy demands anything of me, for by so doing, I am made perfect just as my Father in Heaven is perfect.

So, in obedience to Jesus Christ's commandment/teaching, I make sure to love those who I consider "enemies, making sure to do to them as I would have done to me, and even more. I also resist any urge to pray against said enemies, choosing instead to pray for them instead. When my enemy asks me to do something, I do even more than is requested in obedience to Jesus Christ's commandment.

Here's another example of how exactly you obey God. Below are some of the commandments/teachings of Jesus Christ as far as Prayer is concerned.

Matthew 6 vs 5-15
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
6. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7. “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9. Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.[a]
10. Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
[b] 11.
Give us this day our daily bread,[c]
12. and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.[d]
14. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
15. but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
From the passage above, it is clear that Jesus Christ commands/teaches that His followers pray in secret .i.e. quietly and away from watching eyes(in their rooms even) so they are not seen or heard when praying to their Father in Heaven. Jesus also instructs His followers to refuse the use of empty phrases/many words. When asked how to pray, Jesus Christ gave His followers what is today called the "Lord's prayer". Jesus Christ also commands that we promptly forgive those who trespass against us so that the Father in Heaven can forgive us our own trespasses.

So, in obedience, I make certain to forgive any and everyone who has offended me, and I seek forgiveness from those whom I have offended. Then, also as a follower of Jesus Christ, in obedience, when I pray, I do so away from the eyes, and ears of others. When I am alone, I pray quietly so that outside cannot hear me. When I am in public, I pray silently, in my mind even, so no one is able to figure out what I am even doing. When I pray, I say the Lord's Prayer, I do not use repetitious garbage when I do. I do the same when I ask God for anything.

Jesus Christ said of those who keep His commandments

John 14 vs 23-24 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23. Jesus answered, “All who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them. My Father and I will come to them and live with them.
24. But anyone who does not love me does not obey my teaching. This teaching that you hear is not really mine. It is from my Father who sent me.
These simple acts of obedience show that one indeed loves the person of Jesus Christ, not in words alone but in mine works. undecided

You claim that your so-called "kingdom walk of a believer" hinges on the meaning you draw from the verses you pulled from Paul's writings in his letter to the Romans, but you forget that the one who made the rules, as far as the Kingdom is concerned, the very one to whom the Kingdom belongs, is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the Law as far as the Kingdom is concerned, and if you want to enter into His Kingdom, you must accept and obey His teachings. There is no other way!
peniel465:

If the words you speak stand contrary to the Word of God, Jesus Christ, the Power, and the very Truth of God Himself, how then can you claim your words have the power that is from God? undecided

Are you trying to make God out to be a liar now? undecided

According to Jesus Christ, the only way that His Spirit will abide in you is if you abide in Him(Jesus Christ). According to Jesus Christ, abiding in Him implies accepting and obeying the very same teachings of Jesus Christ which are documented in the Gospels for all to read and learn from.

John 15 vs 1-11(ESV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
2. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
5. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he, it is, that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
6. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
7. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
9. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
10. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
11. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Now you claim to have the Spirit of Jesus Christ living in you(abiding in you) but according to Jesus Christ, He does not abide in those who do not obey His commandments, so are you here again suggesting that Jesus Christ is a liar? undecided
