Beckham was always a major threat on the pitch esp with spot kicks. You don't giveaway a careless freekick on your half of the pitch when you have a player like Beckham on the opposing team.

As for England overhyping their players, shay comot Kean from that category. That guy no nice at all

Beckham was an above average player, he was good but not on the level of midfielders like Zidane or Pirlo.

I don't think he's overrated, won almost everything. He even won the UEFA club footballer of the year in 1999. Had great set piece ability, passing, crossing and gave it all on the pitch. If he had gone to a top club rather than the MLS, he would be regarded differently, in some way his celebrity life overshadowed his footballing contributions.

An average player is not nominated for the final three of World player of the year TWICE, coming second on both occasions.

At a point between 2000 - 2002, Beckham was Man Utd's most important player. So good were his free kicks, crosses and long-range shots then that he almost always made a telling impact in most of the matches he played.
