For several years, Ukanafun in Akwa Ibom State, was regarded as a warzone, inhabitants fled and deserted the beautiful arable land, for militants and terrorists who feasted, operated and oppressed without restraint. Passing through it was even a taboo, and the likes of Iso Akpafid, a notorious dare devil criminal, and his gang, held sway as the supremo commando.

Yesterday Tuesday, February 23,2021, some personal media aides of the Governor, without any scintilla of security assistance, went round the communities of Ukanafun, interacting freely with indigenes of Ukanafun and also assessing progress of work at projects sites.

Recall that in 2017, when the Governor rescued the area from terrorists and armed bandits, he had lamented that their ignoble inactivities not only destroyed their communities, but also stalled developments in their area. Today, with peaceful breath of fresh air, Ukanafun is now a beehive of developmental activities.

One of the new road projects in the area is the 15km Ikot Akpan Afaha - Ikot Oku Usung Road with spurs, handled by a reputable engineering firm, Almajdal. The road on one side connects some communities such as Ikot Okusong, Ikot Ede, and on the right links Ikot Udombang and adjourning companies.

The road comes with side drains on either wings, and has more than four major outfall drains interjecting via aesthetically appreciable culverts to ease the impacts of storm water and sustain the durability of the road. It opens up those rural communities, with unfettered access to their rich natural resources.

Tearing its way into Ikot Akpan Afaha again, is another road from Ikot Ibritam in Oruk Anam through Ekeffe and opening up the great Urua Akpan Ishiet, a major market in the area. Work has also just resumed on this 18.95 km Ikot Ibritam-Ekeffe-Ikot Akpan Afaha road project, coming with a bridge, which is also handled by Almajdal.

The beauty of Governor Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda,is that those communities that hitherto could not feel the warmth of the government, now receive utmost priority attention.

These roads in Ukanafun is an example of the promise that Governor Emmanuel made to Akwa Ibom people, when he said, he will bring developments from the rural communities to the urban centers, thereby opening up the state to economic activities.
