2023: South East Leaders To Assemble In Enugu For 2nd Bipartisan Meeting by Handsomecole(m): 1:36pm On Mar 04, 2021
As a follow up to its initial parley held in Igbere ,Abia State towards the 2023 general elections, leaders of the southeast zone across political parties will again this Sunday assemble in Enugu State to scheme out strategies in the interest of the region.

The focal point of the meeting is expected to centre around the region producing the next President of the nation, also other challenges confronting the region like insecurity are expected to be addressed at the bipartisan parley.

According to a notice published on major national dailies signed by; Chief Whip of the Senate, Former Governor, Abia State, Senator Orjl Uzor Kalu; Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu ;  Former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim and the Deputy Chief Whip, House of Representatives. Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha the meeting is scheduled to hold at the Enugu Government House, Enugu State on 7th March 2021.

The meeting notice invites members of All Progressives (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA) and other political  parties in the South East geopolitical zone.

Those expected at the meeting include; Governors and former Governors ,Ministers and former Ministers, Senators and former senators ,Former Senate Presidents and former Speakers of House of Representatives Members of House of Representatives and former members of House of Representatives ,Speakers of State Houses of Assembly and former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, National Chairmen or former National Chairmen of PDP, APC, APGA and other political parties from South East.

Recall that the Southeast leaders in a consensus at its first meeting held in Abia State urged all political parties to select their presidential candidates from the Southeast.

In a communiqué signed by Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Ike Ekweremadu, Anyim Pius Anyim, and others at the end of a bipartisan meeting at Igbere, Bende Council, Abia State; the South East leaders argued that the presidency has rotated between Northern and Southern Nigeria and among various geopolitical zones with only the South East left out.

The communiqué further stated that the South East as a major geopolitical zone in Nigeria and Ndigbo, being one of the three predominant tribes in the country, must take its rightful position in national polity.

“The Presidency has rotated between Northern and Southern Nigeria and among the various geopolitical zones. Thus, the South West and South-South geopolitical zones in the southern part of the country have produced the President of Nigeria in the persons of His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Hence as power is expected to rotate to the South in 2023, the leaders noted that the South East is the only zone in the South that is yet to produce a President of Nigeria in the current democratic dispensation.

“With the support of other geopolitical zones and ethnic groups, the position of Nigerian President in the 2023 general elections in all political parties should be zoned to the South East for the sake of justice, fairness, and equity. The southeast zone is united and indivisible in advancing the cause of the region and Ndigbo,” the communiqué read in part.

On the security challenges confronting Nigeria, the southeast leaders called for a change in the security architecture to curtail the menace of banditry, kidnapping, and killings across the country.
