The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State on Monday said it had concluded plans to contest the results of last Saturday’s National Assembly election as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The party said it would challenge the results from four out of the 18 local government areas in the state before the Election Petitions Tribunal whenever it was constituted.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Dr. Tayo Dairo, however conceded defeat in two of the three senatorial districts and 14 out of the 18 local government areas of the state to the Labour Party.

He told journalists at a news conference in Akure on Monday that security agencies and the INEC did well in the areas where his party conceded defeat.

He insisted that his party would challenge the results declared in Ile-Oluji-Oke Igbo, Irele, Ilaje and Ese-Odo local council areas of the state because they were marred by irregularities allegedly perpetrated by INEC officials, security agents and the LP.

But the PDP’s candidate in Akure South/Akure North federal constituency, Mr. Adedayo Omolafe, accepted defeat and said he would not contest the result of the election.

Omolafe, who congratulated the winner of the election, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde of the LP, said the result showed what actually transpired during the election.

Meanwhile, the LP chairman in the state, Dr Olaiya Oni, has said that the former governor of the state and senatorial candidate of the PDP in Ondo South, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, should congratulate the winner of the election for Ondo South senatorial district, Mr. Boluwaji Kunlere.

Oni said the people, through their votes, had demonstrated that they were satisfied with the LP government of Mimiko and would want him to continue unhindered with his programmes and projects.

He said the victory of the party in all the senatorial zones and all but one of the House of Representatives showed the extent to which “a people determined, focused and desirous of progress can go.”
