The South-Eastern part of Nigeria is known to be the home of the Igbos. Ndi Igbos are known to be strong, industrious, highly opinionated and business-minded people. They are also known to be majorly Catholics as most Igbo people are either born Catholics or have a member of their family line that is a Catholic.

The South East is made up of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi. Here is a list of 10 places you should visit If you travel to the South Eastern Part of Nigeria.

Awhum waterfall: The Awhum Waterfall has located at Amaugwe village of Awhum town in Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria. Catholic Church at the Monastery had taken responsibility for the management of the caves, Pilgrims & Monks visit the waterfall regularly on pilgrimage.

Ngwo Pine Forest: The Ngwo Pine Forest a pine forest near the center of Enugu. The forest hosts a limestone cave sculpted with a small waterfall that forms a shallow pool at the bed of the cave. The Ngwo Pine Forest is used as a recreational area to picnic.

Silicon Hill, Enugu: Silicon Hill is sometimes referred to as Enugu’s Chappal Waddi because it is 300 metres above sea level. It gets its name from the ‘Silicon’ mineral found here. You just cannot resist the breathtaking views of the hills, valleys, and plains as they present an awe-inspiring blend.

Imo Palm Plantation: Established in 1974, Ada palm is the biggest and most viable oil palm plantation in West Africa. The palm plantation, which occupies about 4,310 hectares of land, with a housing estate, was one of the nation’s major sources of foreign exchange before the discovery of petroleum. This plantation lies in between Amafor and Egbema in Ohiji/Egbema LGA. Access is Owerri to Port-Harcourt road; turn right to Amafor about 20km from Owerri.

Ngwu Spring Water: The Ngwu spring water also known as “Iyi Umugara” is sparkling natural water, pure and crystal-like. The stream is formed by the downpouring of water from the earth surface to about 13meters below the ground from where it flows out to join the Urashi river.
Rolling Hills, Okigwe: The Okigwe Rolling hills is where hill locks of varying heights and-ruggedness.The Rolling Hills of Okigwe is one of the major tourist attractions in Imo state.


Azumini Blue River:Azumini Blue River has stunning views, crystal clear water, sandy beaches and opportunities for canoe rides. Recognised as the cleanest and clear expanse of water in Nigeria, it’s easy to spot fish darting underneath the transparent surface.

The Amakama Wooden Cave: In the rustic town of Isienyi-Ukwu Amakama in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State lies a kingdom in a wood cave of a sort, surrounded by mysterious army bees. One mysterious thing about the wood cave is that it still protects the setters who took refuge inside and outside it, even in these modern days and defies all charms of the evil men.

The Amakama Wooden Cave at Amakama is a wonder tree with a hollow inside that is capable of accommodating up to twenty people at a time. The tree is claimed to be as old as the Amakama community and had acted as a safe haven to the community during the inter-tribal wars and the slave raids era.


Ndibe Sand Beach: Ndibe Sand Beach is at Afikpo North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Fishing and canoeing are among the main attractions of Ndibe Sand Beach. Visitors can revel at this beach with tons of fun activities to leverage for more relaxation.



Abakaliki: Having been dubbed the Fastest rising city of the south-east, Abakaliki is the capital city of Ebonyi State in southeastern Nigeria, located 64 kilometres southeast of Enugu. With Good roads, constant electricity and a welcoming community. Abakaliki is an ideal place for a vacation.
