Serena Williams has eventually withdrawn from the US Open after failing to fully recover from a torn hamstring.

The 23-time grand slam champion, who won six of those titles at Flushing Meadows, has not played on the WTA Tour since sustaining the injury at Wimbledon in June.

She skipped last week’s Western and Southern Open in the hope of being ready in time for the her home major in New York but has now taken the decision to pull out of the event.

On Tuesday, the EFL announced it would stop players from featuring for countries on the UK government’s red list, and anyone who goes on International duty to red-list countries will be quarantined on return, for ten days.

The EFL announced in a statement that” There would be a requirement to quarantine for 10 clear days upon return from a red-list country, the potential impact on players are numerous with considerations relating to health and well-being along with unknown risks relating to Covid-19 transmission,”
