THE FALL OF NSUKKA: TAKE OVER OF UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA, BY THE FEDERAL TROOPS

The report came on July 9, 1967, three days into the Nigerian-Biafran war and it was shocking: the penetration of the Nigerian troops into the new country called Biafra had continued and the federal soldiers had now surrounded Nsukka, the University town and one of the prominent cities of the former eastern region.

The Biafran Head of State, General Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, neve knew it would be this bad.

He was not thinking the federal troops would have it so easy to bomb their way to Biafra. But here they were; three towns: Obolo Afor, Obudu, Garkem, already cptured with the people there cooperating with the troops of the enemy. But worst for the new nation, Nsukka was now circled. And that was 40 miles to Enugu.
