Denmark has free education from cradle to grave. It also has a tax to gdp ratio of 46% . Nigeria's tax to gdp ratio just got up to 6.1%..meaning if we want free educaiton, we have to make more people pay tax, and at a higher rate too.

It means if it happens you're the President of Nigeria we'll all die staffing just like it is

Most important thing is let the NASS establish a university in the largest senatorial district (Orlu, Imo state) in the east with 12 LGAs and a population of about 3 million people but with no operating university in the senatorial zone.

Let your pdp do it

What? Is APC or any political party an exclusive property of any zone or tribe in Nigeria?

You people can’t stop in amazing others with your kindergarten political calculations in this country.

Mass education is key to human and economic development.
An educated population is easier to govern.

Let them use the money being stolen by politicians to establish education institutions all over the place for the youths to get tertiary education. With time, the standard in the tertiary education institutions shall improve.
Even at that, the students who truly entered university to get knowledge do study on their own, and often measure up with others who studied in universities with best standard.

I think a mistake we make is equating human development to UNIVERSITY education. What we need is qualitative primary and secondary education more than anything. A lot of Americans and British do not go to university. They learn a technical trade and it’s enough to give the, a good life because they had qualitative primary and secondary.

If you have had a good education up to secondary level, and you were to be a plumber, you’d do it differently than Baba Taofik in Agege. It would reflect your education.

But here, we have made not going to university to seem like an underachievement or sin. Yet 80% of our university graduates are almost unemployable in a modern company.

Getting employment in modern company is not the major reason people attend tertiary education institution.
To acquire more knowledge and be able to adapt quickly to any circumstances confronting them after graduation, is the main reason people attend tertiary education institutions.
What is the percentage of people who attended those American technical colleges that end up as employees in modern companies? Little.

A very critical matter... very critical indeed.

Establishment of more universities means less stress in getting admission. With more universities, there'll be more slots for admission seekers.

However, studies have shown that ASUU has gone on strike 15 times between 1999-2020. The reason for this is not far-fetched:

UNDERFUNDING BY THE FG among other issues

Is there any guarantee that these universities will be well funded?

Let's see how things will go.

Personally, I see the FG struggling to fully fund these universities as we clearly know from the state of the existing ones. Less stress in gaining admission shouldn't be a higher consideration over getting into a good school and graduating on time without the usual strikes. If the present schools received more funding for infrastructure, research and teaching, they would easily be able to increase their admission capacities each year. Instead of creating more of these schools, I think the FG should offer more licenses for private universities.

Welcome development. I don't know what's Wrong with Nigerian mentality, Because those ones on ground are under funded they shouldn't propose new ones when our tertiary institution is not in anyway enough for our population.

What ought to have channel our strength on is adequate funding of those on ground and not the condemnation of new ones WHICH IS A NECESSITY Because we've not had enough tertiary institutions

Yes, we can make schools free in Nigeria. The solution to these issues is to allow states have total resource control. E.g. Let each of the Niger Delta states control their oil revenues and plan their economies based on this. That was exactly how Awolowo achieved free education for the Yorubas back in the 60s. The Southern States in Nigeria have a greater demand for public universities than the North, yet the Federal Government still builds more schools in the North. For instance, the University of Transportation which Buhari is building in Daura, Katsina.

Truth is we need more schools
We have an exploding population.
The youths need hope
And school is the only hope they can get
A belief that if they go to school they will hammer

Would u rather no school

Do u know the amount of people that write jamb
And no admission

A federal government that is struggling to pay ASUU, and is even taking loans to finance construction of roads, airports, etc. is now planning to automatically build and fund an additional 235 tertiary institutions. This must be amazing!

How will they create industries when they are not Industrialists ?

At least vocational training centres or convert vocational studies into degree courses. When you graduate, you will use what you were taught from the first day to start up work life.

Eg. Turn Photography into a BSc course.
Welding should be a BSc course.
Piggery should be a BSc course.
Fish farming, Hotel management, Music, Machine Operations, Software development.

When they are ready, they will do the right thing. Not now that an engr will graduate and start working in a Bank.

The people running our country are mentally incapacitated.
