Federal Character simply put means representing every Nigerian tribe and region equally. That said, they missed out a word called “equity”.

As of today, Equality is what our federal character represents, what it needs to represent is Equity. The disparity is simply described below.

The Population Mathematics.
The Southern geopolitical zones are already at disadvantage with South-East having the lowest state representation. The South-East can be likened to the little baby in the diagram above; dashed the same number of stool as everyone. This is total Under-Representation at its best.

The slots should be divided into 2 at first along the North and South, whatever each state gets will be a function of how many states represented be it North or South.
Example:
NC have 6 states
NE have 6 states
NW have 7 states
SS have 6 states
SE have 5 states
SS have 6 states

The north have 19 while the south 17 (To a layman, it’s a tiny difference, but a Mathematician will understand its multiplying effect

Based on equity, we have 300 slots for officers.

We at first divide 300 into 2.

That means North shares 150, South shares 150
NC gets 6/19 x 150 = 47
NE gets 6/19 x 150 = 47
NW gets 7/19 x 150 = 56

SS gets 6/17 x 150 = 53
SE gets 5/17 x 150 = 44
SW gets 6/17 x 150 = 53

As against the current stand based on equality
NC gets 50
NE gets 50
NW gets 58
North gets a bulk of 158

SS gets 50
SE gets 42
SW gets 50
South gets 142 officers

This means south has 16 officers deficit each fiscal year. In 2 decades, the North automatically have 320 more Senior officers than the south (all things being equal, assuming morbidity/death is ZERO).

The Pros to considering equity as against equalit
Pros
This will solve the problem of state creation. In the future, if the South wishes to create 1000 States, let them go ahead, if it’s the North too, let them go ahead. Each region already knows how much slots go to them.

Intimidation problem is solved. Almost every officers mess, base, barrack is filled with Hausa speaking soldiers which is the reason why people feel Nigerian Army is a Northern Army which is obviously untrue.
This is a true representation of our tribes and culture.
