I see alot of people attributing the surge in internet fraud to lack of opportunities in Nigeria and lack of job provision by the government but they are all wrong.

In 2019, over 100 Nigerians were arrested in the U.S.A for cyber crime. Are they no opportunities and abundant jobs in the U.S.A? Some Nigerian youth in Europe, America and Asia are into "Azama" (picker) i.e they help their yahoo friends in Nigeria to collect money from their prey. Are they no abundant opportunities in these continents?

There are four advanced men I know who started life in the 70's. These men didn't go to school and there was no body to give them jobs, so they started to learn skills. Two of the men learnt television and DvD repair, they currently have two houses in my city. Another learnt "art work", he is currently training his first child in Canada. While the other ventured into pharmacy. It took these men over 2 years to master their respective skills and over 10 to 20 years before they could build their houses. But today they are doing well.

Three qualities of these advanced men were patience, hardwork and persistence. These qualities are what contemporary Nigerian youth lack and it is very sad. They want to make it quickly in life at the expense of another man's sweat.

Some will tell you they are scamming the white man because of the slave trade. But their ignorance will not let them know that our traditional rulers facilitated slave trade by selling their subjects to the white man. Nazi Germany killed over 6million Jews in 1945, today Jews are controlling the economy of Germany. Slave trade ended around 1890, today the blacks are still blaming the white for their misfortune.

White people work their asses out. Many do multiple jobs just to pay their bills and save for retirement, and eventually one lazy Nigerian youth will reap everything. God will judge you all.

Greed is.

Only a stupid person would blame unemployment for venturing in crime.

Unemployment is a contributing factor but it is not the major cause.
Take any crime, armed robbery, kidnapping, assassination, terrorism, drug, fraud, and human trafficking and you
can link it to unemployment.
But when you look closer, you find out things are not as they seem.

We would expect that the most impoverished nation would have the highest rate of all crimes but that
that doesn't happen. Certain crimes are even nonexistent in some very poor countries. This shows that there are other factors at play.

In the case of Nigerian fraudsters, the widespread support the public gives to Yahoo boys is the driver behind
its surge. We have always had Yahoo boys but it is not something you are proud of until recently.

Even some employed people also engage in internet fraud to keep up with the Joneses.
Secondary school kids also blame unemployment for engaging in Yahoo even though they have no skill that
could earn them up to 50K per month.

Let me give you some instances.

Many are dropout from school, they don't have any skills.

A boy of 16 to 19yrs who's still in the University or secondary school are into it. How's that unemployment?

Many people bribe their way out of school, they have nothing upstairs.

Many will have the opportunity to leave Nigeria to a better place like you mentioned above, they will still go into fraud? Re we to blame Nig government for that too?

Now if government are to provide Jobs.

Can those dropouts who are already exposed to lavish life style work in a factory or farm as menial workers?

Many of them have nothing to offer, they carry laptop around and can't even operate it to the fullest.

I advised one to start a Uber business since he has raised money from his scam to buy a car. He refused.

Unemployment is out there no doubt..

the country economic status encourages it.
let imagine if ₦1 = $1, or ₦0.90 = $1. you dupe som1 of $30,000 will still be the same as ₦30,000 or less..
There won't be any cause to dupe the whites, or let's say the internet fraud will be less than 5%

But now in this present economy ₦400+ = $1
if you dupe sum1 of just $50(What parents give their child for a day to get snacks is some1 take home salary here). that up to ₦20,000. see the difference.

some person drop out of school because most of them have relatives, friends and family members who have graduated for more than 5 years and still depending on their parents. no encouragement, why should I be like them when their is no hope following their lane.

at this point. we can now say unemployment played a big factor to this crime and also the devaluation factor of the country's currency.

A delivering job pay abroad should be the same as a delivering job here. an iPhone of $1000 will be the same as ₦1,000 to here. if it was like this and there was still Internet fraud, then at this point we can now introduce greed and peer pressure here.

so the country encourage this. and it not going out anything soon.
