Insecurity : Azubogu Condemns Rising Insecurity In Anambra; Attacks On Security Personnel

- Commiserates with families of victims; urges investigation, evolution of new security strategy

Leading Governorship aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Chris Emeka Azubogu has condemned the increasing attacks on police operatives and other security personnel in the state by unknown gunmen.

In a statement released through his Media Office on Thursday, Azubogu said the attacks won't solve any of the problems facing the state but will rather expose the state to insecurity-induced crisis.

Calling on Ndi Anambra to unite to secure the state, the PDP guber hopeful stated that, "it is worrisome that our state has witnessed unabated attacks on security personnel for weeks now in which men of the Nigeria Police, Navy and operatives of the Correctional Service (Prison waders) lost their lives while in active service.

Continuing, Azubogu stressed:

"Just as we were thinking that normalcy have been restored, the debilitating news of the attack at Isuofia, in which three policemen were confirmed to have lost their lives, rented the airwaves. Sadly, a serving Commissioner was also confirmed to have been kidnapped in the course of the attack, by unknown gunmen, during a town hall meeting convened by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo at the Isuofia Civic Centre.

“And as if that was not enough, less than 24 hours after, a member of the Vigilante group in Nnewi South was reportedly killed by yet to be identified gunmen".

The lawmaker was emphatic that acts resulting to loss of even a single life is both reprehensible and condemnable, more so when such lives are lost in clear acts of intentional murder of law enforcement agents.

Accordingly, he condemned in its entirety, the thought, planning, and execution of such dastardly acts and call on security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, go overdrive in their effort to unearth their perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Engr. Azubogu also appealed to members of the public, particularly Social Media enthusiasts and commentators, to desist from making wild guesses or allegations that could escalate an already tense situation or sabotage police investigation, bearing in mind that the security of lives and properties of the people of the state is more important than whatever sentiments.

While commiserating with the families of those who lost their lives in these regrettable attacks, Azubogu urge the security agents to speed action in making sure that peace is restored in the state and the kidnapped Honourable Commissioner for Public Utilities released safely.

"This is not the time to queue along partisan divides but a time when Ndi Anambra must unite efforts to secure the state. Our common interest should be paramount at this curve", he concluded.
