Many iPhone users believe that Apple Store is safe. From time to time, even people who use Android Play Store corroborate the safety of using the App Store. These days, Apple Store may not be that safe, as one user learned in a hard way recently. He believed the app store was safe, till a fake app stole his life savings in Bitcoin.

Trezor is a highly rated high by the Apple App Store users. Many iPhone users make use of it to store their cryptocurrencies. One such user, Phillipe Christodoulou wanted to check his balance recently but found that all his life savings in Bitcoin were wiped out.

It took less than a second for 17.1 bitcoin worth $600,000 was gone! The user saw that the app was rated close to five stars, and he thought it was a trustworthy app, but no, it was a plain fake app.

He was angrier at Apple than with the thieves who stole his cryptocurrency. Apple allows each app to be reviewed before it is allowed to be listed on the platform. Apple often promotes the Store as a safe place when it comes to downloading apps.

With this scenario, Christodoulou said he no longer has faith in Apple App Store. “They betrayed the trust I had in them. Apple doesn’t deserve to go away with this,” he said.

Apple claims that its store is the most trusted marketplace for apps; a place where every submission is scanned, and reviewed, making sure that apps are safe, secure, useful, and unique. But even experts agree that it is easy for scammers to get by Apple’s rules and get their apps listed.

When submitting the apps, the scammers present them as innocuous apps but once they are in the Store, the developers may edit them to be able to serve their dangerous interests without Apple’s knowing about it. It may take some time for Apple to find out the activities of scammers and then remove the app.
