If the medication is not able to adequately control the symptoms of the allergy and exacerbations are not easy or possible, an allergy specialist may recommend immunotherapy or "allergy shots." This treatment involves injections that contain small amounts of substances that people are allergic to. After a course of allergy shots, 80 to 90 percent of patients experience fewer allergy symptoms, and in many cases, their allergy disappears completely. Allergy shots can be given in case of rhinoconjunctivitis (nose and eye), allergic asthma and insect stings.
How are allergy shots taken?

The immunotherapy method starts with a low dose that does not cause an allergic reaction, moving the dose slowly until the individual becomes tolerant of a large amount of infusion. Initially, this injection is given once to twice a week until a stable or stable dose is reached. It usually takes about 3 to 6 months. After reaching maintenance doses, most patients' symptoms of allergy disappear completely. The injection is then given every two to four weeks.

How long should I take photos of allergies?

Treatment is continued for a total of 3 to 5 years, after which the patient continues to benefit for 5 to 10 consecutive years or longer, even if the injection is stopped. If the injection is stopped a total of 3 years ago, the allergic symptoms usually return sooner.

What are the risks of allergy shots?

The risks of immunotherapy are the possibility of an allergic reaction to an allergic injection. Most allergic reactions at the injection site have mild to moderate swelling and itching. These reactions occur frequently, but rarely require any change in allergies treatment. In case of significant inflammation, the dose of immunotherapy or the frequency and amount of injection may need to be adjusted.
