Lucky Dube was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian. He recorded 22 albums in Zulu, English and Afrikaans in a 25-year period and was South Africa's biggest-selling reggae artist. Dube was murdered in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosettenville on the evening of 18 October 2007.

In 2005 a young entrepreneur took a risk and toured South African reggae star - Lucky Dube - to parts of Australia that don't usually see big name international acts.

Huge crowds came to see him in Alice Springs and Darwin, many travelling hundreds, even thousands, of kilometres from remote communities.

While he might have been relatively unknown across most of the country, in the remote Aboriginal communities of Central Australia Lucky Dube was “bigger than the Beatles”.

And he left a lasting legacy on the music of the Western Desert – desert reggae.
