Peter Obi, Akunyili's community cries out over town union leadership imposition

The Agulu community of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Monday begged the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, to intervene in the crisis rocking the town's union election

It was gathered that the community, which is also the hometown of the late Minister of Information, Prof Dora Akunyili, had held the town's election on December,30,2020, wherein one Chief Oliver Afamefuna reportedly won the poll.

Speaking at a press briefing in Agulu in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state on Monday ,Afamuefuna decried what he called "sponsored crisis" on the community.

He said the community was surprised that despite "government representatives that witnessed a free,fair and peaceful election in December, the state government imposed a caretaker committee on the community to run its affairs, thus plunging it into crisis.

Afamefuna said,"It is the good intentions of the community to use this opportunity to send a very passionate appeal/SOS letter to the working Governor of Anambra State, Chief Sir William Obiano (Akpokuedike) to personally look into the current happenings in Agulu with a view to quelling the crisis.

He alleged that the conflict was being instigated by disgruntled elements which if allowed to linger would have catastrophic consequences in the "community and beyond".

Afamefuna said the former governor, Peter Obi, had waded into the crisis, to no avail.
"The former governor, Mr Peter Obi, is a gentle man. He has waded into the matter in his own, to no avail. He won't want to confront the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, on such issues.

He accused certain government aides from the community who sponsored failed candidates in the election of instigating the feud .

Afamefuna urged Obiano to call a certain Commissioner in his cabinet to order "and further direct him to dissolve the unpopular caretaker committee and recognise the duly elected executive of the town union in the overall interest of peace and tranquility in the town".
