Word allows you to create logos and watermarks and can serve as an alternative to an image editor, even in a rudimentary way. Microsoft's text program is capable of drawing shapes from scratch with different styles and transparent backgrounds, generating icons to add to your products for sale on Instagram, for example.

The software offers simple working tools and requires a trick to save the material in a valid format, but the effort may be worth it in the absence of a more robust photo editor like Photoshop. Learn in the following tutorial how to make a watermark in Word and save it in PNG format with transparency.

Word's shape tool can serve as a vector illustration creator. Since the watermark needs only a simple symbol, a combination of circles, triangles, squares and other basic shapes may be enough to create the visual identity.

Step 1. from the "Insert" menu, select "Shapes" and draw the elements that will be the base of your icon. You can use more than one object in the same symbol, as long as one of them is larger and offers space to write some letters later;

Step 2. Edit the colors, thickness and type of line that makes up the border of each image. When using two overlapping objects, you can leave the borders white, so that the shapes appear to make up one object;

Step 3. Double click on the larger shape and start typing to insert letters into the icon. The text can indicate an acronym or the full name of your business, if it is small enough to be legible on a watermark icon. Play around with the fonts and size of the text;

Step 4. Finally, right-click on the image and select "Save as image". The file will be saved on your PC in .png format.
