I have clamoured over the years that the entire southwest leadership are intentionally perpetuating poverty in the southwest. The Agricultural value chain in the southwest alone is massive with the sole target of Lagos as it's major offtaker. A very simple strategy over a period of 8years would create jobs in the Agricultural and manufacturing sector of the southwestern states. The foundation is already in place but the political and economic will is lacking.the Lagos State government plan is a welcome development but many issues needs attention before their plan can work. Security is key. They Southwest & south east would experience massive food shortages and skyrocketing prices begin from July due to the issue of inaccessibility to farms as a result of the devastating herdsmen issue.
The south west needs to secure it's farming areas.
The southwest can become 100% self sustaining in the next 8years if the simple steps are carried out .it's also applicable to the south east and south south even the north.
Mechanization should be key .it should not only be seen as a nice sounding phrase.
1. Domestication of manufacturing of tractors and farm implements should be seen as important as ventilators during covid. The south western states can distribute the manufacturing proceses amongst it self to provide jobs and sense of belonging. This can be implemented in other sectors. Massive sensitization and education of the people on the new drive. Encouragement of farmers by elevating them as pillars of the society.this is very important. Ensuring that a part of pride is created where a child who chooses farming is no less than a doctor.
Bulk of all empowerment programs must be geared towards mechanized farming. Each state must as a matter of fact purchase or subsidized not less than 900 tractors per year with Lagos providing 1500 .states like oyo should acquire 1200.They must be share to verifiable farmers at subsidized rate or cooperatives with certain targets and incentives.
Easy and affordable tractor service should be available. Like a Uber for farm mechanization service. Security should be beefed up by forming and supporting an Amotekun local community cadets scheme or corps .
Technology should be employed. In tracking the utilization of all equipments.
Tractor availability and farm inputs should be available online and matched to your farm request.
Ranching by indegenous herders or businesses should be encouraged.

South west is still dependent on Northern Agricultural products in the last 100 years, and they want to secede without being self suffficient on food. That may lead to problems oooo.

The north is self sufficient in Agriculture,both in crop, animal and Agro allied. What she is focusing on now is the exploration of solid minerals to boost growth and revenue.
Its good all the 3 regions to have a master plan for self reliance and possible exportation of goods and services so that no region will become a parasite when we eventually go our separate ways. But not withstanding, the north will always be there for the South whenever they request for any help from their ex fellow citizens.
