With the level at which Nigerians are still clamouring for dissolution after living for over a century together shows that something is fundamentally wrong with the foundation.

In 1914, southern Nigeria and northern Nigerian merged despite the visible differences in our culture, traditions and religious belief. This differences are still definitely much glaring in the way we think, act and live. This as well has slowed down the pace and development at which the south and north should've attained. Of course, the blame game is still on as to which of the coast is responsible for the country woes.

Does Lord Lugard put all these into considerations before merging the two coasts or does it mean our fore fathers begged him to do so on our behalf? His children (great-grand) should be allowed to tell us what their father saw or the rationale behind this.

Thanks.

The major reason is still in the British classified. The north since inception was never viable to progress or stay on it own and was about to collapse. But due to the land mass and proximity it was to the south, the British still sees it as something worth having. Instead of running two administration they merged it soly for the British interest. In the classified document it was stated that the British never considered the interest of the people in Nigeria. Perhaps they never thought nigeria would ever had independent at the time.

It was after the second world war the US pressurized all colonial masters to give up thier colonists. But some stay put with are reason that the colonists was not yet ripe to be on thier own.

During the time nigeria had independence it was the period of oil boom. The British believe their interest in the country can only be substain with power in the north. The south was too wise and educated at the time.

There you have it.
