Is It A Bad For A Male To Grow Hair? by xoftcore(m): 12:12pm On Apr 28
I'm in my Early twenties
Though currently broke
But I decided last year December that I want to grow my hair and begin to plait it
But people have been kind of seeing me as weirdo
Like why will a man decide to plait his hair
Below is a picture of me

Dear xoftcore,

"Growing hair" is not bad, even my boss, Sir Reno Omokri at one point of his life grew hair, but he was not broke while growing it... Infact, you will mistake him for Emmanuel Adebayo the footballer because he was so fresh and clean with the hair.

Instead of "growing hair" I will advise you to grow your bank account by engaging yourself with something that would fetch you cool cash.

If you can't maintain it, then it's a total waste of time.

The thing I have against men growing their hair is, they can't maintain it very well and before you know lice with be in circulation again. Plus it will be oozing all over the place due to the texture ( coarse) and our hot climate.

I'll advise you cut it down. Men ought to be well groomed in order to look presentable and smell fresh.

there's totally nothing wrong with growing hair , in the 80's men rocked afro and it was totally cool then , subconsciously the society has wired us to think its irresponsible to grow full hair , some religious folks even see it as a sin !
My take is if it's bad or a sign of irresponsibility and a sin , then God should stop it from growing !! , I have no control over my hair growth .

Na African mentality. Don't mind those hypocrites. They worship Jesus Christ whose temple and jaw was covered with flowing hair as we're made to know but rush to bash a fellow African for wanting to keep their hair. Even the Jewish law forbids men from cutting the hairs that grow on the side of their heads but here in Africa, especially Nigeria, if you're young and you let your beards grow to the same level as that an Islamic cleric, they label you a hoodlum.

Abeg flex your hair, my guy. I'm growing bald. So I let my beards grow wild like a Norse Viking, Arab Imam or Jewish Rabbi grin

To grow hair or to cut it, which one is more economical/healthier since you are broke? Plaiting of hair attracts lice, gossip and makes you to be a suspect and look dangerous to security agencies. Again, you can't attend church or interview with that hair

@op it's very bad for Nigerian men because they are ugly and it will not fit them because of the shape of their heads and face like Op [hiding his face ]and they can tag you as a gay, hoodlum or a person with no life ambition.

This is exactly why I hate this country. Spits! Even if you cut your hair everyday from now till 2099, you still won't have the same qualifications and job a s this BOA staff.

There are only so many hair-plaiting men that have decent jobs in Nigeria. If you are not in entertainment or own your business, or do some other unskilled work, then you are generally perceived as unserious. Some will even still be wary of an unskilled laborer, with a mane of hair.

Now that you say you are broke, don't you have plans to land some job, anywhere in the near future? Establish your priorities.

From my experience braidable hair starts from eight months if blown. For natural hair, you'll have to wait a little longer.

Braiding the hair is the easiest form of maintenance. For two weeks plus you won't need to worry about the barber. With short hair, you'll have to visit them every two weeks and sometimes once weekly. With braids you just loosen them and set another style. My younger brother switched to a fade haircut recently. Now he visits the barber only once a month as opposed to two weeks like before.

There is no reaction anything. If you freelance online for survival, who will disturb you to cut it? I know men working in banks in the north who have huge Muslim beards. Let me see who'll complain.
