The event which held on Tuesday 27, April, 2021 at the National Merit Award House-Maitama, Abuja had the superfluities of who’s who in the both health and political circle in attendance. The impressive gathering, indeed, gave kudos to the agency for their effort in ameliorating the suffering of the masses who have been greatly affected by the prevailing situation in the country.

In his speech, the Executive Secretary/Chairman Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Dr. Maigari warmly welcomed his guests and seized the opportunity to inform his guests of various challenges affecting the Nigerian masses due to the COVID -19 pandemic and the decision of the government towards the health sector.

”It is evident we are facing enormous healthcare crisis in recent history, not only one occasioned by the corona virus pandemic which had escalated demand for healthcare services globally, travels to other jurisdictions for medication is also increasingly becoming difficult due to restrictions and tighter travelling protocols. Hence, there is therefore no better time to improve the nation’s healthcare system than now. This occasion has further consolidated the agency’s initiative to improve the country’s healthcare sector targeted the under-served communities in the hope that government efforts will make all the difference in saving lives and reversing the deteriorating health conditions by leveraging the use of hi-tech diagnostic equipment to provide improved standards of care to vulnerable segment of society with sizeable percentage of states across the six geo-political zones covered so far in this phase of the Intervention.

The decision by the Federal Government to establish the National Lottery Trust Fund is indicative of a government that recognizes the importance of lottery as a vehicle in enhancing the social wellbeing of its citizenry through investments in its various lottery good cause intervention projects that are creative, relevant, timely, realistic and economically sustainable with visible practical benefits to society and to continue to do so in a balanced, transparent and cost-effective manner.

I cease this opportunity once again to appreciate our visionary President, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for his untiring commitment towards the total well-being of the Nigerian people. Our profound appreciation also goes to the Special Guest of Honour, my boss; H.E, Sen. (Dr.) George Akume, the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs for the extraordinary support, guidance and encouragement. Our profound appreciations also go to the Members of the National Assembly, and our indefatigable Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Chief William Alo, and the Royal Father of the Day HRM (Dr.) Adamu Baba Yunusa Ona of Abaji.

Let me also acknowledge the presence of the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees of the National Lottery Trust Fund, the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission and all lottery operators, permit-holders and promoters.
