Who Handed Over Nigeria to the Fulani,?

Someone said "Fulani is Yoruba's number one enemy and that the British handed over Nigeria to them."

*This is not the truth.*
The British did not hand over Nigeria to the Fulani.

Parliamentary elections were held in Nigeria on 12 December 1959. The result was a hung parliament with no clear majority to form a government.

Zik's National Council of Nigeria and Cameroons (NCNC), came first with 2,594,577 votes to get 81 seats.

Awolowo's Action Group (AG), came second with 1,992,364 votes to get 73 seats.

However, the Ahmadu Bello's Northern People's Congress (NPC), came a distant third with 1,922,179 votes to get 134 of the 312 seats in the House of Representatives despite getting less public votes.

The above three major political parties in the election did not get enough number of the seats to form a government. An alliance had to be formed to determine who would rule.

It was a no brainer that Zik's NCNC and Awolowo's Action Group should make a coalition government as they came first and second respectively.

Awolowo, then humbled himself and volunteered to be a Deputy Prime Minister or Finance Minister in a coalition government with Zik as the Prime Minister. This was because the Zik's NCNC party had more public votes and seats than the Awolowo's Action Group.

Zik invited Awolowo’s team to Asaba, the gateway between the Yoruba's Western Region and the Igbo's Eastern Region to hold coalition talks. The talks were a clever ruse to keep Action Group’s hopes high, so that Action Group would be kept distracted from meeting with other minor parties for talks, including: Northern Elements Progressive Union with 8 seats; Mobolaje Grand Alliance with 6 seats; Igala Union with 4 seats; Independents Candidates with 4 seats; Igbira Tribal Union with 4 seats and the Niger Delta Congress with 1 seat.

Whilst the Action Group team was waiting in Asaba for a meeting with the NCNC, they read in the news that Zik and the NCNC had gone up North and clinched the deal with Ahmadu Bello on forming a coalition government with the NPC.

Tafawa Balewa, a Fulani, would be the Prime Minister of Nigeria while Zik would be the figure head Governor-General. Even Nkrumah of Ghana was shocked. He asked Zik why having spent so much energy fighting for colonial emancipation and then settling for a toothless bulldog role when Nigeria needed him the most.

Zik wrote in his autobiography why he did not form a coalition government with Awolowo.

In 1947, with over £13,500 raised from the Yoruba people and given to the NCNC, Zik had led other six prominent NCNC delegates to London to protest the “obnoxious laws” of Governor Arthur Richards. The trip ended in failure with backbiting, abuses and accusation of theft against Zik. Zik’s opponents at the NCNC, accused him of squandering the money and the trust of Nigerians.

Zik replied insinuating that the Yoruba on the team, that are: Mrs. Fumilayo Ransome-Kuti, Prince Adeleke Adedoyin, and Dr. A. B. Olorunnimbe, were the problem.

There erupted a heated and prolonged press war between Zik’s Political Reminiscence in his West African Pilot and H.O. Davies’ Political Panorama in the Daily Service. This led to Igbo in Lagos rushing to buy machetes in large numbers thinking a tribal war was imminent.

The Governor and his General Secretary, Hugh Foot, quickly called Zik and H.O. Davies to order at the Government House.

Zik went away with the resolve that “the Yoruba must not be allowed to rule over others in Nigeria”.

And afterwards in the Daily Service published the speech of Zik in 1949 about Igbo being destined by God to conquer and rule over others. This among others, will explain why Zik rejected Awolowo's offer of a coalition government in 1959 and instead worked with the Fulani.

The Fulani had been reading Zik and the Igbo through the lens of his 1949 speech ever since.

The Fulani way of neutralising Zik when the opportunity came in 1959 was to offer him a powerless post, which surprisingly Zik and the NCNC dutifully accepted in place of being Nigeria’s first Prime Minister.

Zik had thought that the Igbo can easily manipulate the Fulani in place of the educated Yoruba. He thus manipulated Balewa to arrest Awolowo in 1962 and to have him jailed for 10 years in 1963.

Zik also manipulated Balewa to remove from the Western Region the Edo, Urhobo, Itsekiri and Western Ijaw that account for 70% of the oil wealth in Nigeria and created for them the Mid-West Region.

Zik's hatred for the Yoruba gave the Fulani the impetus to rule over others in Nigeria.

The Igbo coup plotters tried to undo Zik's mistake in 1966. And unfortunately, they killed other tribes and left theirs, which resulted in the civil war.

Britain did not really hand over Nigeria to the Fulani. Nigeria was given over to the Fulani by the Igbo.

However, to hold on to power in Nigeria, the Fulani enlisted the backing of the self-serving career politicians in England.

Not many Igbo especially the young ones know this narrative. I don’t think the Yorubas, even their elders remember this. Has the leopard changed its spots?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztqhz4V7_F4

Zik DID NOT speak for the Igbos when he did his politics. His politics was for his belly and not on behalf of Igbos.

He did not consult Igbo helmsmen before succumbing to blackmail. He actually had a lot of debt which was used to put him in place.

I guess Nigeria is called basket of fools because of numerous individuals in Nigeria with the same level of intellect as you do. Winner and loser or first or last in a parliamentary election is not determined by the popular vote or ballot but number of parliamentary seats won by contesting parties. From the statistics you posted in the above crap, even a delusional dunce can discern NPC won the majority of seats and came first in the election.
British actually knew the northern region did not have number or population to compete hence almost every village in northern region was branded a federal constituency. Instead of using the demography to decide federal constituencies in northern region, British used land mass. Please disabuse your mind from crap about Azikiwe inviting Awolowo to Asaba. Azikiwe did not and never invited Awo to Asaba or Onitsha. Awolowo and Action Group decided to play a fast one on both Azikiwe and Bello. Awolowo dispatched his so-called lieutenants in Akintola and Rosiji to Kaduna while Awo and Ige went to Onitsha. unbeknown to the Awo that his so-called lieutenants have a trick up their sleeves. When Awolowo and his con men got their respective destinations, Onitsha and Kaduna, the team of Akintola and Rosiji unfolded their ace by placing a call to Azikiwe in Onitsha about their visit to Kaduna just to stick it to Awo. It was shocker to Awo and Ige in Onitsha where their hosts were equally flabbergasted at the turn of events.

By the way, there were 312 seats in the parliament. It needed 208 seats to make 2/3 in order to form a government with simple majority. A coalition of NCNC and AG cannot form 2/3 required to form a government. Also, coalition of NPC and AG could not give 2/3. Therefore the natural scenario was a coalition of NPC and NCNC to achieve more the simple majority of 215 to form a government.

You lie.. Zik had the full support of Igbos and was infact pushing an Igbo agenda at the time. If not why didn't any Igbo man come out to condemn his actions?
Instead they were busy filling themselves into top positions in governmemt as if they were the only tribe existing.

Even after the coup that killed Ahmadu Bello.. Igbos were still the ones jubiliting all over the North that led to their brtual killing and massacre.

In 2015, Igbos supported Atiku, a Fulani against Buhari his Fulani brother so what is all the fuss and noise about?

It is only in your silly and deluded skull that a party that won majority ( almost 2/3 majority) seats to form a government came last. When you have Republic of Oduduwa, you can term the party which won more than enough seats to form a government as being last. I guess Oluwole certificate has a place of origin. You are foolishly correct too because Ndigbo divided Nigeria into federal constituencies.

I think at that point in history, Zik's actions may have been caused by his ties with the north due to his place of birth. The north's influence on his childhood memory must be taken as a factor, even that was evident in his arguments persuading north to join nigeria at independence. I don't believe Zik was really representing the tribal or regional igbo interests then, but his nationalistic posturing to carry along the educationally and financially handicapped north along in the new Nigeria is to blame. It was very clear that there was significantly nothing anyone had to gain from the north in partnership, not even Zik. His nationalism and or perhaps his ego took the better part of him, for him to have aligned with the north instead of the west. And that has become very regretable. Or it could possible be that he zik is equally a victim of the north's evil schemings. History has shown that all southerners who had aligned with the north concerning power always got burnt.
Even though history is important, it is even more important that the new generation moves on. The ziks and all have lived their lives and have all gone home, we must live our own lives and not dwell so much on their past deeds. Ziks and all others fought in their own time to become independent of the britisj rule, they did what they felt was the greater good. So if now the new generations of oduduwa or biafra or any other group who sort to start a new path for the betterment of their people should be encouraged to do so. At the end of the day, today will become history just like yesterday, and tomorrow too would become. But what never changes is the desire of man to be free.

Zik, the original betrayer. I always say, listen closely at the insults Igbos love to hurl as a group (betrayer, coward, slave, etc.) It always comes from a deeper place where they know they are talking of themselves and are subconsciously projecting this self thought onto others.

First of all.. You should say Zik handed over power to the Fulanis and not Igbos.
Secondly, as an individual and Igbo man, I accept wholeheartedly that Nnamdi Azikiwe is faulty for aligning with Fulani instead of the progressive Yorubas..

But why did the Yorubas repeated same mistake in 2015 even when the man(GEJ) at the center is a neutral man between Igbos and Yorubas.

Does two wrongs make a right?

Do you remember rascals in government?

That was Jonathan insulting Tinubu after he helped him to win 2011 election. I remember a politician friend telling me late on the eve of the election that AC members have been instructed to vote Jonathan and not Ribadu, their presidential candidate. They voted massively for Jonathan, except in Osun State.

Did he not sidelined the Yorubas when he became president, what was his relationship with Obasanjo on ascending to power,or have you forgotten the role Obasanjo played to make him the president.?

It was not the choice of SW to follow Buhari, but Jonathan 4years pushed SW away. I warned people close to me not to vote Buhari. Now,no one is exempted from Buhari's ill luck

You're a very deceptive person.. it's only gullible ones that will fall for your antics.

Who told you North is educationally deficient? Are you Igbos half as educated as the North?? What is your population compared to North and what indices do you base your assumptions on?
You just go about talking down on others to feel good about yourselves..

And lastly, Azikiwe rejected the secession clause, playing I too know and calling others ethnic champions.. So the difficulty in getting freedom today is because of Igbo attrocities yesterday.

You must understand that nationalism was the in thing in those time. Several independent activists were nationalistic in nature. Zik may not be different.

I am not talking about now. It was obvious the north was handicapped in several areas including western education and finance during the period of the fight for independence.

You argue this way, then turn and argue the other way! Are you Yoruba or from the core north? Whether the argument is favouring the Yoruba or the core north, you always manage to find a way to turn it against the Igbo!

Just as in the 50s and 60s, it's a fact that the north is still educationally deficient today when compared to the south! It could be Zik actually had noble intentions (as naive as i think they were) and didn't want the north to be totally left out of power at the centre. His place of birth may also have informed his sentiments inclusion towards the north as well!

Just to be guided...
Simple majority refers to majority of more than 50% of the members present and voting . Special majority refers to - a) a majority of 2/3rd members present and voting . b ) majority of more than 50% of the members present and voting
