ABUJA – The incident of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) and two pilots that went missing on March 31, 2021, has unsettled the Service, with reports indicating that it was searching for the best approach to resolve the mystery.

Military sources told Sunday Independent in Abuja that the NAF was being very careful in the way it handles the matter considering its sensitive nature.

A source said the NAF had chosen the path of silence to avoid implicating statements that may jeopardise ongoing operations.

However, it appears that all is now set for the NAF to take a final position on the matter this week, as the source said there were serious engagements in that direction.

Sunday Independent contacted the Service to clarify this, asking why it had been so quiet on the matter.

The Service said it was not quiet but that it had been working assiduously on the matter and would speak this week.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), who spoke with Sunday Independent, said lives were involved in the unfortunate incident and, as such, information on it must be property managed.

“We are not quiet. We are very careful. It is not something we rush into. Lives are involved. We must put their families into consideration. We are not quiet. We will speak next week,” the DOPRI said, assuring that they had been doing something about the incident these past weeks.

It is now one full month since the unfortunate incident occurred in Borno State, when the NAF raised the alarm that its Alpha Jet aircraft on mission in Borno state was missing.

It's a shame that NAF left it's pilots to rot for so long instead of going to evacuate them
