English Words Whose Pronunciation Should Be Changed! OPINION by BrainSanitizer: 8:44pm On May 02, 2021
I wonder why LEOtard is pronounced ˈli(ː)əʊtɑːd,
LEOnine is pronounced ˈliːəʊnaɪn,
LEOne is pronounced liːˈəʊni.
But LEOpard is pronounced ˈlɛpəd.
Why should Leo suddenly change from ˈliːəʊ to ˈlɛ?
Anytime I am pronouncing leopard, I hear myself saying lepard.
Is there a word whose pronunciation doesn't sound like it?

That's cause English draws from other European languages such as Latin and French, among others (perhaps Welsh, Irish, etc). Some words aren't even English, but have made it into its lexicon.

So just because the words look similar their pronunciation will thus differ.

Or so I think. grin
