The Minister of Labour and the Supervising Minister of Interior, Chief Emeka Wogu, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that improved and adequate security of life and property of the citizens is maintained during and after tomorrow’s election.

The minister stated this at the inaugural meeting with the management and staff of the Ministry of Interior, including various heads of parastatal agencies of the ministry, comprising the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), Federal Fire Service (NFS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Chief Wogu, who expressed concern over the internal security in the country, especially after the last presidential election, said that the government would continue to pursue strict border control policy.

“One thing I will want to achieve within the short period of time is to continue to pursue strict border control and patrol and we need to start doing something about it in order to come up with strategies on how to go about border control in the subsequent elections because of the challenges we had.

“I believe that if the boarders are shut, we might not have influx of miscreants from our neighbouring countries that could equally be capable of unleashing mayhem on Nigerians,” Wogu said.

On the issue of expatriate quota, the acting Minister of Interior expressed delight that the ministry would soon commence a programme to ensure that expatriate quotas were not given to foreigners to come and take up jobs where there were qualified Nigerians to take up such jobs.
