from many songs i hear, i feel there are many bad songwriters around 9geria. listen to edge of desire by john mayer or jar of hearts by cristina perri. then wonder why they cant write like that. i can think of neyo in the u.s but none over here.

We have songwriters for goodness sakes.

You have to understand, the industry, Nigeria does not have the proper marketing, promoting or reward channels that the yankee & cambridge boys have.

Guitarman is a song writer, so is Asa, you think D'banj writes all his songs.

Anyway, from what i figure, if Nigerian artiste gave more info on their cds you would know how many song they did write.

Dbanj must have a bad songwriter. Asa and Guitarman professional songwriters? do they write for other acts?
I think we havent really explored songwriting as a money making venture.

For your answer, there is one to check out. One of Africa's most versatile Creative Giants of the Arts & Sciences, a genius who remained "underground" for over 35 years unrecognized and uncelebrated has finally been dragged out of his hiding place!
Most of his creative works have been ”captured“ for release to the public! We'll bring you a full interesting interview where he tells it all why he remained ”underground“ for so long!
Emmanuel Chinyeaka Okoli is one of Nigeria's most versatile creative artists of the 21st century. He is a graduate of Theatre Arts, Drama Education, a Multimedia Production Specialist, and Security Consultant, an accomplished Literary Writer, Playwright, Poet, Designer, Choreographer, Song Writer/Producer and Performer.

He was one of the pioneers of the then famous Sweet Breeze Band of Enugu, Nigeria, the founder of Afro Foundation Group of Calgary, Afrikanata and a co-founder of Afro Folk Ensemble of Calgary, Alberta Canada.

His website is at www.chinyeaka.com

His latest songs are:
1. We'Ve Got To Live Together by "My Uncle" - Chinyeaka Okoli. A Raggae Song that calls on all Nigerians to unite to fight all enemies of disunity.http://www.chinyeaka.com/documents/we_ve_got_to_live_together.html

2. Back To Your Roots - A universal call on Africans to use the WISDOM of their ancestors and to REFINE it for their future. http://www.chinyeaka.com/documents/back_to_your_roots.html

Nigeria is a difficult place for song writers. Unlike in Europe and America where song writers are given due recognition, Nigeria doesn't give at all. Also our music artists(Singers) are not helping matters at all. They want to be jack of All Trade, that's why most of them hardly follow their Depute songs with other quality songs. They want to enjoy all the royalties alone, forgetting that distributipn of labour in American music industry is responsible for the great feet American artists have achieved. Well, i'm blessed with the gift of the Garbs, and can write quality Hip-Hop and R and B songs, any interested artist may contact me via: Comradeferdy@yahoo.com
