By WordPress, I believe you mean the ".org" or self hosted version because there is a WordPress version that works just like Blogger.

Both are good for publishers or Bloggers but the major difference is that Blogger is nearly free, save you have to buy a domain name in order to personalise your blog while the self hosted WordPress requires that you buy a domain name, a web hosting package and possibly a theme and pay for graphics design to get a good logo to proper represent your blog.

The major difference between both is CONTROL and LIMITATIONS. While you can start a Blogger blog without a dime, it is very limited and restricted. Since Blogger hosts your blog for free, you can't just publish or use your blog for whatever you wish to use it for. If it violates their policy, your blog will be taken down without warning. So no matter the name or fame you make as a Blogger publisher, you are no different from Tunde Ednut who must play by the rules of Instagram, lest his account is suspended over and over again. The limitation part is design. Some argue that you can get a unique Blogger template but it would mean that you would have to pay a developer or buy premade templates if you are not comfortable with the crappy free ones. To fully maximise Blogger, you will need to understand HTML, even if it's a bit.

Enters Self-hosted WordPress...

Nearly, if not more than 50% of the websites and blogs on cyberspace are powered by WordPress. You can do practically anything with WordPress and it doesn't end there. There are over 50,000 free themes (or templates) available for you to use. Most of these themes have limited options save you get full or premium versions. There are also special pieces of tools called plugins you can use to enhance your blog within seconds. You don't need any coding knowledge or background to manage your manage as everything is in plain, simple English language.

And since you paid to host your website, you have limitless control over your blog and can write on anything without fear of violating any policy save you subject yourself to ad networks with strict policies.

You might not be able to achieve a visually stunning, super fast blog on your own and this might require that you hire a web designer to further design your blog to your taste and also optimize the speed of your blog.

Depending on the web hosting provider you choose, you will have to renew your web hosting either weekly, monthly or yearly. Also, your domain name must be renewed yearly.

A downside of WordPress is that total control is dangerous. So many noobs often install too many unnecessary plugins on their website which can either negatively impact their blog's growth and even user experience.

Bottom line:

Pros of Blogger

- It is easy and free to use.
- Good for microblogging/hobby blogging.

Cons of Blogger

- Limited in options.
- You are not in control.
- Requires money to get a fully premium design.
- Lack of support/assistance.

Pros of WordPress

- Limitless designs/UI
- Limitless support/assistance
- Periodically updated to stay fresh
- You have total control
- Gives your blog a professional, serious feel.

Cons of WordPress

- Hosting, domain name and premium designs are not free.
