The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has continued to lead the charge against the rising state of insecurity which has continued to threaten the sovereign status of the Nation.

Recently the Ondo State Governor took the leading role as he led other Southern Governors in the Nation to find a lasting solution to the various insecurity challenges militating against the peace and absolute security of Nigerians.

At the end of the meeting, a communique was issued and the Governors collectively placed a ban on open grazing of cattles in the Southern States.

It was also stated during the meeting by the Governors present that, " the people of the Southern Nigeria remain committed to the unity on the basic of justice, fairness, equity and oneness and peaceful co-existence between and among its people with a focus on the attainment of shared goals for economic development and prosperity".

The Southern Governors Forum is made up of Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State, Engr. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, John Olukayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Senator Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State, Senator Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State, Isaika Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN of Ondo State.

Considering the recent move of the Ondo State Governor regarding the high state of Insecurity in Nigeria which has seen him rally round fellow Governors from the Southern region, here are 5 major reasons why Governor Akeredolu is leading the Charge of the Southern Governor's Forum.

i. His Ultimatum on Open Grazing- it will be recalled that the Ondo State Governor was among the first set of Governors in Nigeria to come out and place a ban on Open Grazing of Cattles in his State while also giving an ultimatum to unregistered herders to vacate the State's forest. Governor Akeredolu had directed all herders in the state's forest to ensure that they are duly registered with the state.

ii. His Stance on Amotekun- The Ondo State Governor was also responsible for the formation of the Indigenous Regional Security Network, Amotekun. This was launched after due consultation with fellow South West Governors under the DAWN Commission. Ever since the creation of the Security Network, it has successfully complimented the work of the Nigerian Police Force by curbing criminal activities in the region.

iii. His agitation for a Seaport in Ondo State- Ondo State has the longest coast line in West Africa and the Ondo State Governor is working towards creating an international seaport in the State and for this to be fully actualized, there's a need for a conducive atmosphere in the State.

iv. Firm Believe in the Oneness of Nigeria- The Ondo State Governor has on numerous occasions laid emphasis on his believe in the Oneness of the nation, one which he stated that he will always pursue. He believes that Nigeria is one indivisible nation, and that each component units of the federation must take intentional and active actions to protect its sovereign status.

v. His Empowerment of Amotekun and Ultimatum to clear the forest reserves- Since the creation of Amotekun, the Governor had ensured the full and effective working of the security network in carrying out its duties as stipulated upon its creation. He indigenous security network has taken to the state's forest to clear the forest clean of unscrupulous elements in order to make the state and neighbouring states safe.
