Dear Senator Lola Ashiru,

I write to you as one of the good people of Kwara South Senatorial District that voted for you in the 2019 Senatorial Election in Kwara State. Which you actually emerged the winner. Glory be to God.

The purpose of this open letter is to urge you to cast your vote in support of the bill sponsored to scrap the one year compulsory NYSC program which has now reached second reading in National Assembly.

I feel scrapping NYSC is a right call in the wake of massive Insecurity of lives and properties that have besieged our dear country lately. From Bokoharam terrorists mayhem to kidnapping of innocent corp members, banditry, Unknown Gunmen assault of civilians and security operatives in large part of the country. All these are now known to have become a big threat to our nationhood and to our graduates traveling from one state to another just to serve their fathers land. I don't even mention the accidents factor that has claimed several lives of graduates yearly on our potholes ridden highways in the course of traveling to Camps and PPAs in far end of country.

Senator sir, Immediately NYSC is scrapped, I'll suggest you move a bill to replace the defunct NYSC program with creation of standard vocational centers in all states. All graduates of tertiary institutions should be made to attend their state's own compulsorily for a period of 6 months to learn whatever they so desire, get necessary orientations and given money after the acquisition of the necessary skills to establish on their own what they've learnt.

NYSC is costing the government around 60 billion naira yearly, with this initiative I believe it will cost less, save budget for more pressing national needs and will empower graduates in many ways and further reduce unemployment.

It's the fact that NYSC which was established under the then military head of state Yakubu Gowon in 1973 has outlived it purpose which is to unite the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria in the aftermath of the Civil War. It has served the purpose of it establishment. I think it's high time you stepped up and redefine what tomorrow of Nigeria graduates will become. Especially, the future of graduates from Kwara South Senatorial District where we voted you in.

Thanks as you consider this sir.

Yours truly,
Salaudeen Teslim O.,
Undergraduate Of Federal Polytechnic Offa,
Kwara State.

By your reasoning, Armed forces should also be scrapped because they are being killed by insurgents, terrorists, bandits and UGM.
