Alot of people lay too much importance in their certificate, they feel like having a uh university/polytechnic certificate will really make them successful....

Success is not determined by education. But this does not undermine the importance of education. Be it basic or professional level education, it keeps you prepared for opportunities. At the very minimum, education helps you fit in to this rather complex world without constituting nuisance to others.

Nope, it doesn't. We all read a story of a Masters holder turned cleaner earning #35K in Lagos. There's several other big time certificate holders roaming the streets without jobs or just doing menial jobs; lagosians know what I'm talking about. That should not make you conclude that Education is not important, though! There's several people that didn't go to school but, they own businesses that even employ graduates. They're experts at what they do so they're able to navigate through obstacles. There are several successful professions that require little or no degree; just know what you're doing. There's no point having a degree if you're not making money or taking care of yourself with it. This applies worldwide, by the way.

The first thing is what is success? It's definition varies. So, to avoid too much of diversions, let's see success in its general view. In that case, one can be successful without education, but the question is, to what extent? Those 'successful' without education knows their limitations.

Can you now be successful with education (certificate)? Hunmn, it's not automatic. As a matter of fact, it's easy for an uneducated to consider himself successful in life with little income or achievement, whereas, an educated person wants more.

In my own opinion, education is needed, but that is not enough. To be truly successful in real life, you need to build a mental strength with education.

The video link above explains what education and success looks like in real life. It reveals the real importance of passing in colleges / university, but never a measure for success. In the real life, people who have learnt from life alongside acquire education, even if not with the best of all grades are more valuable and more wanted in the labor market.
