Leadership Experience Summit For Undergraduates by InTandem: 1:59am On May 28, 2021
The Rivers State Medical and Dental Students' Association has put together a leadership experience summit that would impact the University of Calabar community and students leaders across various institutions in the state.

The event is billed for Friday, 28th May 2021 by 2;00pm prompt at the Spencer Efem Lecture Hall, University of Calabar.Teachjng Hospital.

It focuses on topical areas that bother on the collective experiences of anyone involved in student leadership or activism.

The break down of the Four(4) keynote speeches and Six(6) Panel sessions are given below.

The speakers are drawn from past alumni of the University of Calabar, captains of industry and current students of the University of Calabar, vetted by a special recommendation committee on satisfying the criteria for innovation and excellence in leadership.

The Keynote speakers include;
Barrister George Fortune, a deputy registrar of the University of Calabar and Chairman, Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators, University of Calabar Branch(UCB). He serves in the anti-corruption unit of the University and directs innovations for delivering quality service and tackling systemic corruption. As chairman in his first tenure he has diligently the delivery of welfare packages without default for all staff of the University under the body, regularly organized training workshops and capacity building retreats. He is set to organize the largest gathering and training for professional administrators in southern Nigeria later this year.

Mr. Dixon Otobo, a security expert would take participants through the managing conflict and crisis in leadership especially from a security perspective.

Dr. Ogar Emmanuel Idoko, a practicing family physician and former President of the Medical Students' Assocation in the University of Calabar would take participants through an exposé into the Serious Bussiness of Leadership. Dr. Ogar has bagged several awards of meritorious services and boast of quite a collection, his experience would surely be of benefit to all.

Daniel Faithful Miebaka, a medical student and President of the Rivers State Medical and Dental Students' Association is also a vocal advocate for gender equality and women rights having authored several articles and essays on the topic. He would put his thoughts on Male Privilege from a Male Perspective and stir up a conversation on the importance of gender equality.

Dr. Grace Obo, Nkpoikana-Abasi Aniefiokz Offem Esther and Doreen Osuji would take centre stage in discussing their experience with dealing with gender prejudice on the sphere of politics and leadership.

Dr. Grace Obo is currently a medical officer and former student leader and advocate for gender rights,l and health rights, she is also known for pushing against gender barriers to run for Presidential office in the University of Calabar.

Nkpoikana-Abasi Aniefiok, is a first class graduate of the University of Calabar, currently a lecturer with the same university. She was elected Vice-President of the Student Union Government and later became President for the rest of the tenure. She is from records the first and only female President of the University of Calabar. She has the record of delivering the most student centred capital projects, equipping all hostels with recreational and sporting facilities and uplifting the image of the Union. Her thoughts on dealing with prejudice and Juxtaposing Academic Excellence with Leadership would be of immense benefit to all participants.

Offem Esther is a former Financial Secretary of the Students' Union Government in the University of Calabar and President of AIESEC a youth led leadership organization. Esther while in office organized one of the most attended capacity building seminars for students and provided empowerment for selected participants. She later rose through the ranks of AIESEC in Calabar. She would share her thoughts on Breaking New Grounds and Innovations in Leadership and to provide practical insights from her experience in leading an organization that is gender sensitive so the leaders of the Students' Union Government can adopt and make significant progress. She is a trained and practicing Laboratory Scientist and also provides consultancy services as well as running other private enterprises.

Doreen Osuji Chiagoziem is currently the Chief Judge of the Student High Court and doubles as the first female to occupy the office and first non- Indigene of the state where the University is located. She would share her thoughts on breaking gender and ethnic barriers to leadership having broken the ceiling with a stellar record in court room advocacy and judiciary experience.

Offiong Andem, Sumuko Wisdom, Nelly Ebruka and Maxwell Nvani would take the stage to discuss Breaking New Grounds and Innovations in Leadership.

Offiong Andem is a former President of the Calabar University Theatre Arts Students' Association (CUTASA) and graduated top of his class, he would also share his thoughts on Juxtaposing Academic Excellence with Leadership. During his time in office he was instrumental to boosting the image of the department on campus and even on a nationally scale having led a contingent to the National Theatre Festival were the Department won several awards. He was the brain behind several creative exhibitions on campus and also consulted by external bodies even while a student. In recognition of Offiong's creativity he is christened the "Theatre god".

Victor Bisong is a former Secretary of the Student Union Government and graduate University of Calabar. During his time in school he was a debater and public speaker and became an adjudicator in the University of Calabar Debate Club after an excellent career. He shares a strong passion for leadership development and has mentored several student leaders in various arms of government. He runs is an entrepreneur who also volunteers actively in The Bridge Leadership Foundation. He would share his thoughts on Visions of our Future Lessons from the Past.

Nelly Ebruka is a space law enthusiast and undergraduate of the Faculty of Law, she is an African Champion and runner up at the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Competion. She has a stellar career as an international mooter who has appeared before Justices of the International Court of Justice during the world Championship in the United States of America. By her achievement she boosted the image of the University of Calabar and has led to the introduction of Space Law Association, and popularity of space law in the University of Calabar. She is also a Past President of the Impact Leadership Club (ILC) a youth run leadership club. She has all of this while maintaining highest levels of academic excellence. Nelly would also share her thoughts on Juxtaposing Academic Excellence with Leadership and Leadership Ethics.

Sumuko Wisdom is a former Secretary of the Students' Union Government, during his time as secretary he initiated the bill for the creation of the Literary and Writing Society, which passed into the law and is currently a functional society. He organized capacity workshops for literary societies and drew endorsements for empowering excellent writers. He was a former scribe of the Senate and has been vocal in student activism and electoral practices. He would also share his thoughts on managing electoral campaigns and leadership ethics.

Maxwell Nvani is currently President of the Dental Students' Association, University of Calabar. There is hardly a faculty president who has recorded as much innovations and advancement in the image of their respective assocation. He initiated a smart protocol for the issuance of identity cards to students, electronic payment of dues, successfully publishing periodic journals and editorials (the most by any association on campus) and also being the second faculty assocation to launch a website amongst other things, all of these while being the second President for this young and growing assocation. His leadership exploits earned him being the leader of all Faculty Presidents of the College of Medical Sciences. He will share his thoughts on
Breaking New Grounds and Innovations in Leadership.


Ewa Anthony is currently the President of the Medical Students' Assocation, University of Calabar. He is currently the most exposed in terms of leadership experience amongst his peers with his current office being the third in the executive of the medical assocation since beginning his undergraduate programme. He has deployed his wealth of experience in managing the assocation, dealing with crisis and management. He currently represents the bridge between the past, present and the future of student leadeship. He would share his thoughts on Visions of the future: Lessons from the past.

Etaba Agbor is the immediate past President of the Law Students' Assocation, University of Calabar, he is a seasoned legal advocate with numerous awards and medals among his collection. He was the most awarded faculty president among his peers and celebrated for his management of the brand and image of the association. He oversaw the growth, and active participation of his constituents at the National level including winning several competitions, and leadership positions. Etaba has long been in the Bussiness of student advocacy both in and out of the court room. He would share his thoughts on Leadership Ethics, Evaluating Gender and Ethnic Prejudice and Visions of our Future : Lessons from the Past.

Okobru Gideon is a longservice leadership icon, having been returned consecutively to office for the entire duration of his undergraduate program. All of this follows a careful evaluation of his track record in administrative performance and maintianing relationships with constituents. He has been a distinguished leader and has overseen the rise of several persons under his constituency and guidance most of which have become executives of various associations, senators of the Students' Union Government including the Senate Presidency amongst others. All of this responsibilities he has handled while dealing with the stress and demands of medical training. Gideon would share his thoughts on Juxtaposing Academic Excellence With Leadership.

Dede Oputamuno Gilbert is a former Secretary of the Medical Students' Assocation, who during his time founded the Debate, Public Speaking, Essay Writing and Quiz (DPEQ). The club was focused on training members to represent the faculty at several competitions and shortly after the faculty of medicine won the Inter-faculty Debate Tournament for the first time during under his administration. He has been a former parliamentarian and President of the Union for persons from Okrika extraction in Rivers State. He has used his position to advocate for ethnic inclusion and would share his thoughts on dealing with gender and ethnic prejudice.

Daniel Faithful Miebaka who is arguably the most achieved legislator during his time in administration of legislative duties like putting forward the record highest number of bills, advocacy for rule of law and separation of powers and also due process has gone on the mentor several leaders even at the Students' Union Government in all its arms. He has been advocate of electoral preparedness and electoral campaigns that target the electorates rather than the culture of serving stakeholders. He has served twice as Chairman on Presidential Panel to screen members of the Judiciary and Ministry of Justice in successive administrations all in recognition of professionalism, transparency and due process in seeing only meritorious candidates emerge. He has also been a former executive of the Nigerian Union of Campus Journalist(NUCJ), ran a private own student run media outlet and finally settled into copywriting he has been a ghost-writer on retainer by several persons in various offices. On electoral campaigns he has delivered one of the best student centred manifesto driven campaign that ended in victory for a Student Union Presidential candidate he managed, and other persons in various offices and faculties. He is also vocal against tribally motivated politicking or playing politics on gender lines a common trend by over-zealous aspirants to draw support either as males or females he would bring his experience to bear during the panel sessions while discussing; Managing Electoral Campaigns, dealing with Gender and Ethnic Prejudice and Leadership Ethics.

The Leadership Experience Summit is a package and organized by the Rivers State Medical and Dental Students' Assocation under the leadership of [b]Daniel Faithful Miebaka [/b]who is bringing his experience at the highest levels of student leadership and several years of mentoring student leaders to project the image of the assocation while repositioning it for growth.
