Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has revealed that the Adamawa State Agribusiness Support (ADAS) Programme will clear all the debts incurred by the previous administrations in the state.

He said the programme was designed to take full advantage of the agricultural potentials within the state and will focus on livestock subsector among other areas so as to boost the economy of the state.

The Governor who stated this during a media chat at Gotel Communications in Yola on Friday said the programme will also generate 750 thausand direct and 1.5m indirect jobs to Adamawa people.

He added that it will Increase the annual IGR from 8.3b on inception to 45b by the tenth year, and Increase in Gross Domestic Product GDP from 1.7 billion naira to 7.8 trillion among others.

The Governor said despite the huge debt inherited by his administration, coupled with economic crunch occasioned by Covid-19 Pandemic, the government was able to cut down wastages and deploy resources for the betterment of the people.

On Infrastructure, Governor Umaru Fintiri said it is the priority of his administration to provide the necessary infrastructure that will drive in investors into Adamawa so that the state will wax stronger economically.

The Governor disclosed that his administration will soon launch another phase of road constructions that will cover more areas in the state as the first phase of the infrastructure have almost been completed.

On education, the Governor said his administration has introduced free education and free payment of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and awards scholarship allowances to Students.

Responding to question on state police, Governor Umaru Finti said he welcomed the idea but expressed the fear that states that have low IGR will not be able to sustain the policy as it is capital intensive.

Governor Umaru Fintiri sad his administration has also given priority to workers’ welfare through payment of workers entitlements, and constructing housing units to close the gap in the housing deficit in Adamawa.

He also spoke on healthcare, pension and gratuity of retired workers, among other issues and vowed that the present administration will not leave any stone unturned untill the state is developed to greater heights.
