Ever heard of Brexit? Well, now there's CapeXit.

The CapeXit mission: to have the Western Cape region of South Africa declared as an independent country.

And it’s completely possible, and legal, according to the aptly named organisation CapeXit.

“Self-Determination is guaranteed by South African, African and international law and is readily defined in the international conventions that have been co-signed by South Africa.”

CapeXit needs the support of 1.6 million people to request a referendum with the South African Government, and they are determined to get their way. According to recent media reports, 800 000 registrations have already been clocked in on the website – half the number it needs to achieve its goals.

“Failing the government’s approval we will seek the support of the United Nations, The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights,” said the organisation.

Why CapeXit?

Here are a few proposed benefits set out by the organisation:

1. The tax income generated in the Cape will be used for the benefit of Cape citizens.
2. Improved education system, police forces, healthcare system.
3. Zero tolerance for lawlessness, racism and discrimination and effective changes in housing benefits.
4. Recognition of property rights.
5. Closed borders to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants.
6. The CapeXit website has also published a number of articles in support of their said movement. One report stated the following:

“The current ‘democratic’ South Africa is one where rape has classifications, where murderers get bail, where the accused has more rights than the victim, where unemployment and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is a household name. The State-owned Enterprises (SOE’s) like SAA, Eskom and others, are a bottomless pit of debt and a smoke screen for State Capture, land grabs are promised without compensation and questionable people are employed in important positions in Government.

“Add to this the violent strikes, where police are ‘standing by’ and not reacting, the blatant encouraging of farm murders by very prominent people and you sure have a recipe for self- destruction.

“The fact that South Africa is rated 4th out of 115 countries where 1 is the most dangerous and 115 the least should make independence an obvious choice.”

Ironically, Cape Town has consistently been rated the murder capital of South Africa.

It will not. It will just be a return to apartheid as the ruling DA party in the Western Cape turns a blind eye to white racism, inequality and black poverty.

They'll only sort out white issues as they've always done ever since they ruled Cape Town in the early 2000s. Very segregated city.

No, not as high as Joburg and Pretoria.

If you noticed, point 5 of their demands is "closed borders to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants".

Lol cheesy, I don't think it will get to that point. Once the economy picks up again they'll forget about CapeXit.

Yes it is. Cape Town even has a problem with internal migration of people from poorer provinces. Their old premier once referred to Xhosa people from neighbouring Eastern Cape as economic refugees. She was forced to apologise for that.

But it's also coz Cape Town is the furthest city to travel to - on the tip of Africa.

But Joburg and Pretoria (Gauteng province) is favoured by African immigrants because it is rich and yet Pan-African.

They stole the land in 1652 when they arrived in SA. We won't allow them to do it again. No white people will ever again own a piece of Africa.

Biafra and Yoruba Nation should also come up with a genuine referendum petition signing/votes. This petition signing should be properly advertised so that Biafrans and Oduduwa citizens can vote. If the petition target is reaches and the government fails to setup a referendum for the people, then we can go to UN and ask them to set up a referendum for us. I think Capexit is doing it the right way by documenting the votes it has gotten.

South Africa's top constitutional expert Pierre De Vos says a petition is not enough to get a referendum. Governments can always deny it.

Look at the extent to which the Catalan region of Spain has gone to seek independence but has failed. Its leader Carles Puigdemont who fled Spain over the failed 2017 independence bid is now in exile and Europe is not aiding him.

Britain too is denying Scotland another referendum.

Biafra has also sought independence for decades now but Nigeria refuses to grant it and the world has been silent on the issue. The African Union will just say it's an internal matter, as always.

CapeXit is ridiculous because the political party leading it is made up of European settlers who stole the land to begin with, so don't even attempt to model your bid around theirs - it's dead-on-arrival.

Yes the ANC government has more authority over the entire country than the APC has in Nigeria because SA is a republic and Nigeria a federation.

That's why it will be more difficult for Cape Town to gain independence. Biafra actually has a better chance of succeeding compared to this CapeXit.

I can tell you now under a white Cape Town you won't get a visa coming from Nigeria, just like you didn't under apartheid, unless you coming to work on the farms as indentured labour. The black government is actually very nice to the African continent and has swung the borders and economic opportunities wide open. You should be grateful actually, and i'm not even trying to be funny.

I must admit I fell for their scam at some point but the recent mass exodus of black leaders from the DA speaks volumes. They just blew their chances of ever governing SA or other major cities outside of CT.
