In 1941 Joseph Stalin took an interest in the tomb of Tamerlane and sent a team of archeologists to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where Tamerlane’s final resting place was. They ignored the inscription and entered his tomb. Hours later Adolf Hitler launched the greatest land invasion of all time with 3 million troops into Stalin’s USSR and would go on to cause the deaths of more than 26 million Russian people.
