Six soldiers and a yet undisclosed number of gunmen are feared dead in Ohafia, Ohafia council area of Abia state in the early hours of Saturday as the military battled gunmen in the area.

Vanguard gathered that on Thursday, at about 5pm, unknown gunmen had stormed the Ebem motor park, shot sporadically in the air and fled to the Amangwu area of Ohafia.

When soldiers of the 14 Brigade of the Nigeria Army got wind of the incident, they went in search of the hoodlums in the community.


However, the soldiers who could not arrest any of the hoodlums, reinforced and returned to Amangwu community.

Sources told Vanguard that in their second visit, the unknown gunmen engaged the soldiers in a gun battle which reportedly lasted for several hours.


In the gun duel, unconfirmed reports have it that six soldiers were killed, while an undisclosed number of the unknown gunmen were also shot dead.

The operation caused the natives of Amangwu to flee from their homes as many of them slept in the bush till the next morning when the soldiers returned to their barracks at about 8.45 am.

A native of Amangwu Ohafia, who simply gave his name as Udo, and resides in Umuahia, told Vanguard that one of his relatives called him on phone at about 4.30 am and told him he was calling from inside the bush where they had gone to take refuge.

Residents of Elu, Ebem, and other adjoining villages in Ohafia, are reportedly living in fear.

Effort to contact the Army spokesman, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Capt. Iliya Dauda, was unsuccessful as at press time.

However, a senior military officer in the state confirmed the incident, adding that over ten gunmen were killed in the crossfire.

When is all this thing going to stop? If Nigeria army had reacted like this in Zamfara 51 innocent people wouldn't have die in Zamfara yesterday.

Unknown gunmen fired shots and fled and in minutes everywhere swarmed with soldiers,..but whole communities are shot up for several hours throughout the night or even day by Fulani terrorists,but not a single soldier or police to be seen.

So military killed ten gunmen and we didn't see pictures of them flaunting their bodies... Bloody liars.

They're in the SE looking for gunmen whilst fulani terrorists and bandits are killing ppl everyday in almost every state. With little to no resistance from this so-called army.

what actually happened was that only ONE ESN operative was killed actually according to reliable sources, 7 soldiers died in the gun battle. The soldiers having failed to get the ESN guys descended furiously on the neighboring communities to mass arrest any young men they could find, the young Ohafia youths had to resist abduction and in the ensuing melee several houses were razed down by the solders, and some people fled the panic in panic.

I heard that no UGM died. Eight Soldiers were reportedly killed and one innocent villager equally died. They started arresting innocent youths and wanted to taking them away before the Ohafia youths came out enmasse to block them. We need to commend the Ohafia youths for their bravery. If not, some of the arrested youths would have been murdered and termed Unknown Gunmen. We would have seen reports like " 14 Unknown Gunmen killed by Soldiers in Ohafia". Once again, kudos to the youths.

are you even sure that one unknown gun man was killed? I saw in the other thread where they were propagandaring that ten unknown gun man was killed.
