It was during his recent interview aired on Arise TV that President Mohammed Buhari issued a directive to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation,Mr Malami to revisit "Federal Government Gazette on grazing routes in Nigeria".

Mr Buhari viewed re- establishment of the old grazing routes in Nigeria as the only solution to the menace of herdsmen's killings across the length and breadth of the country. He therefore directed the minister of Justice,during the interview, to unearth the gazette with a view to re -establishing the ancient grazing routes across the country.

In view of the recent communique issued by the southern Governors, after their meeting in Asaba ,Delta state, to permanently ban open grazing in their territories, is President Buhari's directive to malami not a direct attempt to stop or frustrate the banning of open grazing in southern Nigeria ? Is there ,in actual fact,any federal government of Nigeria gazette on grazing routes across Nigeria or the gazette was that of the old northern region of Nigeria with the routes limited to that region ?

I think Buhari's position on open grazing is quite unfortunate and his directive to Malami can be misconstrued by the marauding herdsmen as endorsement of their bloodletting activities across the country. This is 2021,we won't allow Buhari to take us back to Usman Dan fodio's era ! Ranches should encouraged while open grazing should be limited to such states in the north that can accommodate it. Any attempt to force open grazing down the throats of the people will not only be violently resisted but will result in more bloodlettings and violence across Nigeria.
