An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a farmer, Segun Adebayo, who allegedly shot an 18-year-old herder to death be remanded in Oke-kura Correctional Centre.

The police charged Adebayo with culpable homicide.

Magistrate Ibrahim Dasuki, who gave the order, adjourned the case until June 22 for further mention.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp. Zacheaus Folorunsho told the court that the deceased’s brother, Muhammed Adamu reported the matter at the police station when his brother failed to return from tending to their cattle.

He said that Adebayo confessed at the police station that he shot the herder because he was grazing on his farm.

Folorunsho said that the defendant confessed further that he shot the 18-year-old to death and tried to conceal the corpse.

He prayed the court to remand the defendant on the basis that his offence was not ordinarily bailable.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

When it comes to southerners, everyone will remember due process. But when the core northerners are involved, due process will be thrown out of the window.

Leadership transcends building railways and refurbishing airports. Every democratic state must be built on fairness, equity and justice. That's how you build a nation.

The problem here is when do other tribes learn to live the Northern way.

This happened in Ilorin where the judge would have been a Yoruba man like say 80%of the time. The culprit is Yoruba judging by his name yet he condemned his Yoruba fellow to jail.

Were the tables turned and the parties involved Fulani against a Yoruba herder with a Fulani judge. The case would have been thrown out of the court for lack of evidence.

So Yoruba, we should learn to support ourselves or else we will have no one to support us when we need them.
