HOW TO WRITE A GOOD THESIS/RESEARCH PAPER.

Writing a thesis/research paper can be daunting at the beginning, especially when the researcher (student) is faced with an ‘A in research’ to compete for. It is good to point out that thesis/research paper writing is a pretty good process to experience in school if the right skills are applied. The main aim of this quick article is to reduce the tension researchers (students) are faced with when it comes to research writing/thesis writing/project work write up. Listed below are some skills that can help every researcher carry out a sound research and write a good thesis paper.

1. Get a pen and paper, write down your research topic. Your topic is the essential idea of your paper. After writing down your topic, try to isolate each word in the research topic. Next, try to understand each word individually before combining all the topic words together to form a sentence. This act helps every researcher to give a precise meaning of what the research work is basically about before even writing the first word in the first chapter of the thesis/research paper.
2. Next step, as a researcher you need to know the title of each chapter and what each chapter’s title really means. Understanding the actual meaning of the title of each chapter helps you as the researcher to know what is expected of you from that chapter.
Most times the chapters’ titles of research papers often follow the order as shown below;
Chapter one: Introduction (this is the chapter where you introduce anybody reading your work to what your research entails and what to expect in the following chapters). A good introductory chapter can be clearly understood by a layman.
Chapter two: Literature review (this usually the most bulky chapter. This is chapter where you give elaborate definitions, explanations and descriptions of terms and phenomena associated with your research work. Under this chapter, previous research works (empirical literatures) carried out relating to your topic are highlighted).
Chapter three: Methodology (this is the chapter where you clearly state out the mathematical method, statistical tool or engineering approach you intend applying in carrying out your research analysis).
Chapter four: This chapter is somewhat different in accordance with the department under which you are researching. Generally speaking, it is bordered around calculations, analysis and statement/discussion of results using the methodology stated in the previous chapter (chapter three).
Chapter five: Summary, conclusion and recommendation.
