Nigeria is endowed with agricultural resources, a large expanse of land estimated at 91,000,000 hectares of which 81,000,000 is good for arable activities and 18,000,000 is classified as permanent pasture and meadow for livestock.

Nigeria's agricultural sector is distributed into four sub-activities - crop production, forestry, livestock, and fishing. In nominal terms in the third quarter(Q3) 2019 the sector has grown by 14.88% year on year. Indicating a reduction of -3.44% significance from the similar quarter of 2018. Distinguished to the foregoing (2016 and 2017) quarter's growth rate of 17.76%, this illustrates a decline of -2.89% points. 91.6% account for crop production which accounts as the largest driver of the third quarter of 2019 sector. 

Also, 44.12% stood at quarter on quarter. In 2019 statistics, Nigeria's agriculture grew by 2.28% year on year with an increase of 0.37% from the 2018 period and 0.49% from a preceded quarter.
