The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) which is the closest runner-up to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the result of the April 26 governorship election, and other elective positions in the state, has raised two legal teams to challenge the election of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of the PDP.

The legal action by the DPP are in two fold as disclosed by the state chairman of the DPP, Chief Tony Ezeagwu. According to him, the petitions would come up for hearing in Asaba, as soon as the election tribunals are inaugurated.
In an interview with Daily Sun yesterday in Asaba, Ezeagwu disclosed that the party filed the petition at the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin but that hearing was hindered by the crises that rocked the national leadership of the judiciary.
“We filed our papers in Benin to beat the deadline and even our papers were not served due to that crises and now that the election tribunals were being constituted, the matter will have to come to Asaba for trial”.

According to him, the DPP was already gathering documents to enable it prosecute its petitions against the election of Uduaghan on April 26 even as the party had applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to provide it with all electoral materials used during the election. Ezeagwu who expressed optimism that the DPP candidate, Chief Great Ogboru would reclaim his mandate hinted that his confidence in the judiciary was unshakable.
“There is still hope and we do advise that tested judges be appointed at the various tribunals so that at the end of the day, every party will be satisfied”. He noted that the DPP as a party had done well in the state and that election did not take place in the three local government areas in Warri where Uduaghan secured over 180,000 votes to defeat Ogboru.

He also disclosed that forensic experts would be used at the tribunal to scrutinize all the election materials used.
Speaking on the expectations of the people from President Goodluck Jonathan, the DPP chairman tasked him to address the yearnings of the people especially in the areas of electricity supply, security, rural development, agriculture and unemployment.
