AKWA IBOM RANKS TOP FOR EASE IN BUSINESS

Akwa Ibom State has been ranked among the top states in Nigeria for ease of doing business.

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council made this known as part of the outcome of the "States Ease of Doing Business Subnational Baseline Survey", undertaken by the Council.

According to the baseline survey, Akwa Ibom ranked fourth among the States in the country having attracted huge volumes of investment.

Reacting to the development, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said it was not surprising, considering the unrelenting efforts of Governor Udom Emmanuel at improving the business environment in the state.

Comrade Ini Ememobong said apart from creating a technical unit for business development, the Foreign Direct Investment from the early days of his administration, Governor Udom Emmanuel has continued to invest resources in power infrastructure, security, human capital development, as well as loans and Grant’s for SME development.

According to the State Information helmsman these measures have created the enabling environment for businesses to continue to thrive in Akwa Ibom, while new ones are taking-off on a regular-basis.

The Ease of Doing Business survey measured the current attractiveness of states' business climate for Small and Medium scale enterprises, SMEs, by rating each state on a ten-point template, using Infrastructure & Security; Transparency & Access to Information; Regulatory Environment, Skills & Workforce Readiness, as indicators.

The work was intended to help determine the enablers of subnational competitiveness
opportunities and identify constraints, which will facilitate dialogue and drive policy making and captures the different business environment realities across the country, backed up by the success stories of SMEs from all regions, to encourage peer learning and review, healthy competition and provide guidelines for investors.

The survey is a dividend of the collaboration between the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council and the National Economic Council, both of which are chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

See eh, nothing would convince me more if Udom completes this three projects before he goes......

1 the deep seaport(most important). Good for business and Lagos ports would decongest

2 the super highway to the ports

3 and the new airport terminal (100% completed and commissioned)

This things boost BIG businesses in a country.

That seaport cannot decongest Lagos seaport.
There are several reasons importers prefer Lagos seaport.
1. Market
2. Preference of shipping companies
3. Manufacturing hubs of Lagos and Ogun States
4. Security of waterways
5. Speed
6. Depth of ocean
Forget the emotional comments you read on Nairaland, Lagos seaport will continue to command huge cargo traffic.

This is a black man way of thinking and doing things.
If I may ask, is it only Lagos that has (1) the market (3)manufacturing hub (4)security of waterways (5)speed (6)depth of ocean.

Do you even know that to ship from Onne is faster than Lagos and that the depth of ocean in the proposed Ibom seaport doesn't need constant dredging unlike Lagos. The only advantage Lagos has is your number 2 BUT with the coming up of other ports, they will quickly ditch Lagos for the new ones because of ease of doing business and TIME(speed and less traffic)

Because the good people of Akwa Ibom don't depend on "Oyel" like their Niger Delta neighbors. Akwa Ibom is the richest in terms of oil production in Nigeria, but they have good leadership and governance so they have used their oyel allocation budgets to very good used in terms of infrastructures...meanwhile the others in the Niger delta (I won't mention names) are still relying on govt pipeline contracts while wasting away in the creeks sabotaging their own environments by blowing up oyel pipelines instead of holding their leaders accountable.
