|What Is D&D? by andrewpaul9005: 10:17am On Jun 20|
WHAT IS D&? D& is a traditional fantasy tabletop role playing game first designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson as a game for one boy. It was published in 1974 by Tactical Studies, Inc. It has since then been licensed by several different manufacturers and has become one of the most popular games in the world of RPGs.
In D& things are always changing. No matter what book you are reading, each book tells a different story about the world of D&. Each game and setting are new and fresh. The basic rules are all the same, but each game adds its own twist, its own rules and variables to the basic set up. The world of dragons and elves may be dark and dangerous, but it is also a world of light and magic where any two characters can easily find a common ground.
The basic rule set of D& is divided into three categories; the combat system, the rules for character sheets (also known as the class sheet) and the dices (a weigh against die roll). Combining these three categories, you have a simple but extremely complex game of rolling dice and making characters! This is because the game is based on statistics, and the more interesting aspects of the game are the statistics that make the difference between winning and losing. The dices, or the weight against the die roll, is the simplest aspect of the game and one of the first things anyone learns in the d&d; although, learning how to use the dices is often one of the hardest things for new players to master.
Using the dices in D& is simple: every roll of the dice results in either a hit or a miss. Learning to use the die is also simple: when a hit happens, the character takes damage equal to the number rolled, and if the roll was a miss, the character must Retreat (towards their side). For example, if your party's character sheet says you have a sixteen defense, you will only take one damage per defense point, no matter how many points you have on your character sheet. This makes D& a game that can be easy and fun for both the player and the DM, with all of its complex mechanics hidden behind the simple act of rolling the dice.
The beauty of D& is that it is a game where two people can easily and comfortably spend hours on end playing an intricate game of character building and exploration, without ever feeling as though they have been stripped of their individual identity or having their time wasted. D& is about more than just using dice to determine random results, it is also about creating believable characters that will engage with the players. Since you will always be using dice to determine the action and result, there is no need for a player to think past the basic act of spending a turn rolling the dice and seeing what the dice say. If the character sheet is already full, it is easy to just start playing with a group of friends, all with different characters, all interacting while using the same character sheet to define their unique qualities and characteristics.
So, what is D&? It is a game that can provide a multitude of experiences for the players involved. It can be a simple game of rolling dice to see what happens, or it can be a complex and deep game of creating characters and going through adventures and engaging in narrative through narrative dice rolls. No matter which type of game you choose to play, it can be an extremely fun and addictive experience that can enhance your imagination and help you become a better person.

I've loved playing D& with my friends for 15 years now. Since childhood, we have adored this universe. When we were seven years old, we played board games based on the D& universe. Later, we got computers and started playing D&-based on MMO RPGs. And we still occasionally meet and play, although there is much less free time than in childhood. Sometimes I miss the time when we could do what we wanted. Recently I decided to go back and play D& with friends, but I forgot the rules and sang. It's good that I came across a good D& Guide where everything was briefly explained. If you want, you can play with us, write to me in private messages.
