It is an important food security and early maturity crop that can be intercropped with some crops like yam and maize. Sweet potato offers a particular significant potential for increasing food production and income in Nigeria like other agricultural crops.

It provides job-opportunities for farmers as well as raising their income. Both the leaves and roots of sweet potatoes are used as animal Feed.
According to research, Ogbomoso has an accommodating weather and great soil with rich nutrients that promote sweet potatoes farming.
