Moving further inland from the Urhobo territory one approaches the Anioma areas of Delta state.
Calls for a NDR have been to a lesser degree in the area for some reasons which can be identified, one of which is the dual nature of the Anioma identity in the South South zone. The South South zone since its creation in 1993 has become the home of many minority ethnic groups of Southern Nigeria. For the Anioma people, finding themselves in the South South home of minorities has been somewhat an administrative anomaly. This is such because in the Nigerian space where tribal allegiance plays a leading role and different ethnicities try to outdo rather than compliment each other, setting a foot wrong could bring dire political (and even cultural) consequences, and for the Anioma who happen to be ethnic Igbos, who find themselves in the "home" geopolitical zone of the ethnic minorities this has been the exact situation. They more or less have taken the euphemistic appearance of a bat amongst birds.

It is therefore no surprise that the rest of the minorities approach the Anioma people in a two faced manner. This moment they embrace them as brotherly comrades the next moment they are shunned and overlooked. That is to say, the Anioma acceptance in the South South has remained circumstantial, based only on their importance in the moment.

Having this in mind an independent observer begins to understand why the calls for a Niger Delta Republic remained measured in the area, only usually backed by those perpetually seeking full acceptance from the rest of the zone.

On a flip side, the Biafran agitation which is recognized as an Igbo secessionist agenda has unsurprisingly enjoyed more patronage in the Anioma area than the NDR agitation. However this is not to say such patronage is anything close to the astronomical levels of support and patronage the Biafran agitation enjoys in the Igbo South East. Nonetheless, across several areas in Anioma, the Biafran romance lingers. Such leanings however, become of greater consequence as the search for new allegiances is brought to the fore by the discarded Niger Delta agitation. This as well as other key considerations like demographics, cultural ties and kinship.

Being ethnic Igbos the option on the table now seems rather straight forward than complex.
The inevitability of Biafra draws nearer.
