Legally, of course the adopted son. But culturally, may be different from place to place.
A person angry at his natural sons can even adopt a son and declare him his heir

It depends on the desire of the parent. If the head of the house decides the adopted son is his first son then so be it.

Village or no village people, the adopted son is the rightful heir to whichever inheritance. He is the first son and in the law court, there's no adopted first son and first birth child son. Son is son, both are legitimate.

We are no longer in 1850 abi 1900, if the village people want to claim first born inheritance to the birthed child, that's where the law court comes in.

In a saner country the adopted should be the heir, because the adopted has been legally given to the family......

But for Nigeria, even if the parent accept, your family members would disagree

That adopted child remains the first born if the family

They don't have to let the rest of the children be aware that he was adopted

Remember they were not having peace and happiness in their marriage until they adopted that child and he brought success for other children to be birthed in the family

So do we throw away the bath water with the baby, simply because the baby was adopted

Assuming that's the only male child of the family and he has sister's, will this question come up

This is one of the reasons some Nigerian couples don't like adoption.

Lots of times they( and their extended family) never really see the adopted child as theirs especially if a biological child comes later .
